A tall dark-haired man approaches a market stall tucked away in a dark corner of town, the stall owner Devlin looks up noticing the man and smiles.
" I understand you have a shield for me." The stranger asks, Devlin motions for him to come behind the counter.
" With your sword-craft and this shield, I guarantee you'll win." Devlin showed the stranger the shield, a yellow shield with three interlocking green serpents.
" Show me how it works." The stranger replied gruffly.
"Certainly. Tharanai im bis entra ofra honra stolle." The painted snakes on the shield come to life and slither out of the shield hissing menacingly. " When you're competing in the tournament, you pin your opponent under the shield, a snake strikes. Your opponent will be paralysed." Devlin explained before handing the stranger the shield. " The snakes are now under your command. They'll do anything that you tell them to do." The stranger looked up at the shop keeper curious.
"Anything?" He asked.
" Just say the word." Both men broke into laughter before the stranger stops abruptly glaring at the shopkeep.
"Kill him." Devlin backed up but one of the snakes lashed out and struck killing the shop keeper instantly.
The stranger rides into Camelot and upon arrival removes his helmet placing his seal on the registration table.
" Knight Valiant of the Western Isles. I'm here for the tournament."
" Welcome to Camelot." The steward responds.

It had been a week since the Lady Helen incident and Merlyn's arm had healed enough for her to start working for Prince Arthur, Morris his old servant had continued serving while teaching Merlyn the ropes until she was well enough to take over. Merlyn entered the Prince's chamber which was shrouded in darkness and quickly placed his breakfast on the table and moving to open the curtains.
"Rise and Shine!" Merlyn crowed with exaggerated cheerfulness, there was a muffled moan from the bed and Merlyn moved forward giving the Prince a shake.
" Come on lazy head, at least I know where your son gets it from." Merlyn huffed as the Prince continued to grumble and bury himself under the blankets. Merlyn quickly went about grabbing out clothes hanging them over the screen for Arthur to change and grabbing the discarded clothes on the floor throwing them in the laundry basket. When she noticed the Prince still in bed she walked over and grabbed the duvet and yanking it off causing said Prince to yelp at the nip of the cold room.
"Hey, you can't treat me like that!" Arthur snapped grumpily.
"If you are going to act like a child then I'm gonna treat you like one, I've raised two and they're better behaved than you in the morning." Merlyn smirked at Arthur's shocked expression before continuing around the room cleaning and straitening. Arthur finally got up and changed before sitting down and chewing his breakfast slowly.
