Chapter 56
Shadows fill an empty heart
As love is fading
From all the things that we are
But are not saying
Can we see beyond the stars
And make it to the dawn?
What About Now by Daughtry
Skye, Dean, and Sam drive up to a very sleazy-looking motel and pull into the parking lot. "Dean, this place changes by the hour." Skye says. "Yeah, well, the book says Lilith finds Sam at the Red Motel. Hence, the, uh, hooker inn. It's opposite day, remember?" Dean says as they go inside to the front desk. "One room with two beds." Dean says handing money to the man nods as he takes the money. He puts the cash in the register and hands Dean some change then opens a draw and grabs a key. He hands it to Dean who takes it. "Room 27." He says.
They leave and go in search for their motel room. Once Dean finds it he unlocks it and they all enter the room. Sam shuts the door behind hims. Skye drops her bag on the bed and starts pulling out items. She takes a few small string-tied bags and places them around the room. "What are you doing?" Sam asks. "Couple of hex bags, ought to Lilith-proof the room." She says.
"So, what? I'm supposed to just hole up here all night?" Sam asks. "That's exactly what you're gonna do, okay? And no research. I don't care what you do...use the magic fingers or watch Casa Erotica on Pay-Per-View." Dean scoffs as he reaches into Sam's bag and pulls out Sam's laptop, smiling. "Oh, dude, come on." Sam groans. "Just call it a little insurance." Dean smirks.
"What are you and Skye going to do?" Sam asks. "Well, the paper says that Skye also stays and does research and that I just ride around in my Impala but I am going to take Skye with me and we are going to go on a date to a diner. Now behave yourself, would you? No homework. Watch some porn." Dean smirks. Skye grabs her purse and leaves the room with Dean as Sam fumes.
~DINER~
Dean and Skye take a seat from across from each other in a booth by the window. A waitress comes over with two menus in front of them. "Can I get you two anything to drink?" She asks. "One coffee, black. And she will have a strawberry frappuccino light on the whipcream." Dean says as the waitress writes down our drink order. "I'll be right back with your drinks." She smiles and walks back to the kitchen.
"Dean relax everything is going to be okay." Skye says calmly trying her best to help the one she loves relax. She takes Dean's right hand in hers and lightly rubs her thumb over his hand. "This whole thing is fucked but we are in control of our own lives not some nerd writer wannabe. Whatever he wrote in this book of his, we aren't going to let happen." Dean says, squeezing Skye's hand.
~35 MINUTES LATER~
Skye and Dean both exit the diner, holding hands laughing, enjoying their time together. It's very rare they go on little dates like this. Dean looks up towards where he parked his car and sees two teenagers attempting to break into the car. "Hey!" Dean shouts and both him and Skye run towards the car, Dean a bit further ahead from Skye. All of a sudden a van careens towards Dean. "Dean watch out!" Skye screams but Dean can't get out of the way in time, and it hits him, knocking him to the ground, unconscious.
~RED MOTEL~
Sam opens the door to reveal Chuck. "You wanted to see me?" Chuck asks. "Yeah." Sam says as he looks around shiftily then opens the door wider letting Chuck enter. Sam shuts the door behind him. "Thanks for coming." Sam says. "Ah, sure." Chuck says. "Uh..I was just wondering how much you know. About me." He says. "What do you mean?" Chuck asks. "Have you seen visions of me when I'm not with Dean and Skye?" Sam asks. "Oh...You want to know if I know about the demon blood." Chuck says.
"You didn't tell them?" Sam asks. "I didn't write it into the books. I was afraid it would make you look unsympathetic." Chuck says. "Unsympathetic?" Sam asks, offended. "Yeah, come on, Sam. I mean, sucking blood? You got to know that's wrong." Chuck says. "It scares the hell out of me. I mean, I feel it inside of me. I...I wish to god. I could stop." Sam says, upset.
"But you keep going back." Chuck says. "What choice have I got? If it helps me kill Lilith and stop the apocalypse." Sam says. Chuck looks at Sam confused. "I thought that was Dean's job. That's what the angels say, right?" Chuck asks. "Dean's not...He's not Dean lately. Ever since he got out of hell. He needs help." Sam says. "So you and Skye got to carry the weight?" Chuck asks. "They've looked out for me my whole life. I can't return the favor?" Sam asks. "Yeah, sure you can. I mean, if that's what this is." Chuck says.
"What else would it be?" Sam asks. "I don't know. Maybe the demon blood makes you feel stronger? More in control?" Chuck asks. "No. That's not true." Sam says. "I'm sorry, Sam. I know it's a terrible burden...feeling that it all rests on your shoulders." Chuck says. "Does it? All rest on my shoulders?" Sam asks. "That seems to be where the story's headed." Chuck says. "Am I strong enough to stop Lilith tonight?" Sam asks.
"I don't know. I haven't seen that far yet." Chuck says in shock.
~STREET~
Dean wakes slowly, still lying int he middle of the road. Skye hovering about him. "Oh my god. Just take it easy, you're gonna be okay." She cries. "I'm so sorry. I just didn't see him. Is he okay?" The lady who was driving the van asks as Skye helps Dean sit up. "And sorry about...you know." She says indicating a young girl standing nearby. "My daughter's going through a doctor phase." She says. "What are you talking about?" Dean asks.
"You're all better now." The little girl smiles proud of her work. Skye hands Dean her blush that has a mirror in it. He opens it and looks into the mirror. On the left side of Dean's head is a pink flowery band-aid. He looks at Skye horrified and then across the street and sees the Imapala's back window is shattered.
"Oh no." Dean groans as Skye helps him up and they walk over to the Imapla. Dean rips off the band aid on his head, in anger.
~CHUCK'S HOME - DAY~
Dean and Skye get out of the Impala, which has a tarp covering the rear window and Dean is still fuming as they enter Chuck's home. "Dean. Skye." Chuck says, carrying a bottle in a brown bag and a six-pack of cans. He sets them on the counter. "I take it you knew we'd be coming here." Skye says. "You look terrible, Dean." Chuck says.
"That's 'cause I just got hit by a minivan, Chuck." Dean says, not happy at all. "Oh." Chuck says. "That it? Every damn thing you write about me comes true, that's all you have to say is oh?!" Dean yells. "Please don't yell at me." Chuck says. "Why do I get the feeling there's something that you're not telling us?" Skye asks, crossing her arms. "What wouldn't I be telling you?" Chuck scoffs. "How do you know what you know, for starters." She shrugs her shoulders. "I don't know how I know, I just do!" Chuck yells at Skye as he is getting in tired of these people constantly demanding shit.
"That's not good enough." Dean growls as he shoves Chuck against the wall causing him to groan in pain. "How the hell are you doing this?!" Dean yells in his face. "Dean, let him go!" Castiel says, appearing out of no where beside Skye who jumps back. "Fuck Cas you need to stop doing that." Skye growls. Castiel blushes. "Sorry Skye." He apoloizes giving her a small kind smile then he looks at Dean, who is looking at him confused to what he just saw. "Release him." Castiel says to him. Dean still looking at hims, studying him as he lets Chuck go and turn to face Cas.
"Staty out of this Cas." Dean growls, pointing his finger at Cas, taking a few steps towards him. "This man is to be protected." Cas explains. Dean scoffs. "Why?" Dean asks.
"He's a prophet of the Lord." Castiel says.
