A/N- I know they don't celebrate Thanksgiving anywhere other than the U.S., but we can pretend, right?
"Shota!" you called from the kitchen, "Someone's at the door. Could you get it for me? I'm a bit busy."
Shota groaned from the living room, shaking Eri and Oboro from his back as he rose. Eri was 8 now, and Oboro 6. The three of them had been playing around in the living room, trying to stay out of your way while you cooked. You were expecting Hizashi and Nemuri for Thanksgiving dinner.
Shota opened the door, Eri clinging to his waist as Oboro latched onto his left leg.
"HEEEEEY," Hizashi shouted as the kids released their father and ran into his open arms, "How's my favorite little listeners?"
"Thank goodness," Shota sighed, "They're your problem now 'Zashi."
"I'm good with that!" Hizashi handed Shota a bag of food he prepared then picked up both kids, carrying them to the living room.
Shota closed the door behind him and headed to the kitchen to drop off the food Hizashi made. "Not sure you want to eat this," Shota said, opening a container, "Hizashi's never been the best cook."
"Hey! I heard that!" you heard Hizashi yell from the living room.
"Just stating facts."
You sighed and grabbed the container from your husband. "Enough from you Sho'. I have full confidence in Hizashi's cooking abilities."
"At least someone does," Hizashi mumbled.
A bell rang from the entryway. "Ah, that must be Nem'," Shota said, heading to the door and opening it.
"Auntie Nem!" Eri yelled, running into Nemuri's arms.
"Eri, dear! Oh, I missed you!" Nemuri squealed, squeezing Eri tight in her arms. She lowered her voice and whispered, "Guess what I brought?"
"What?" Eri asked, getting excited.
"Apple pie!"
"Really? That's my favorite!" Eri exclaimed, jumping up and down in excitement.
"Where should I put it Sho?" Nemuri asked.
"You can set it on the counter there, we won't have that until later," he replied, pointing towards the kitchen.
You set out the plates and silverware, "Oboro, Eri. Could you two set the table for me, please?" You asked, handing the tableware to them.
"Of course!" Oboro said, puffing out his chest, "You can count on me, Momma!"
"Thank you dear" You replied, pulling the turkey from the oven and setting it to cool for a minute. Nemuri came in to help with the rest of the cooking. You both set the rest of the table, piling it high with turkey, stuffing, casseroles, and rolls. After surveying the feast you prepared, you called the rest of your family in to eat.
They took their places at the table, Shota at the head, you on his right. Eri sat next to you and Nemuri next to her. Oboro sat next to Shota and Hizashi on his other side.
Before you all dug into the food, Shota stood up, "I think we should go around and say something we're thankful for. Oboro, why don't you go first?"
He thought for a second before responding, "I'm thankful for food!" he shouted. You all giggled at his response.
Hizashi went next, "I'm thankful I can spend Thanksgiving with all of you!"
"Aww 'Zashi!" You exclaimed.
"I'm grateful for the day off," Nemuri said, eliciting a few "yea's" in reply.
Eri thought for a moment, her brows furrowing in thought. "I guess I'm thankful for my family," she said, smiling at you and Shota.
Your eyes watered slightly at that. Her life just a few years ago was so hard and horrible. You were so glad you could become the family she never had.
You sniffed slightly and thought for a second. "I'm grateful that I get to be a mom to two amazing kids," you grinned, gaining a hug from Eri. "What about you Shota?"
"I'm immensely thankful for my beautiful wife. Where would I be without you?" Shota said, holding your hand in his.
"Aw, Sho-" you stood, giving him a kiss on the cheek, "-you're so sweet."
He grabbed your chin and kissed you on the lips lovingly.
"Ewwwww!!" Oboro moaned, "You guys are gross!"
"Yea! Get a room!" Hizashi agreed.
You both giggled and sat down. "Alright you lot, dig in!"
You leaned back in your chair, watching everyone serve themselves, Oboro occasionally getting in Hizashi's way on purpose to mess with him. Nemuri helped Eri with her plate and Shota served himself a large serving of potatoes.
You sighed contently, so grateful for the chance to spend time with this amazing family or yours. Whether they are related or not, you loved them all and couldn't imagine a life without them.
