The Beach!

"Woah, where are we?" Eri asked, eyes glowing with excitement.

"The beach," you answered, crouching down to Eri's level, "do you wanna go see it closer?"

Eri nodded quickly and clutched your hand as you stood, walking towards the sand and the ocean that lay beyond. You glanced back at Shota who was grabbing bags out of the trunk. He nodded and smiled at you, turning back to his task.

You walked Eri to the edge of the sidewalk, stopping at the edge so she could get a feel for the sand. She dipped her toes in the sand, wiggling them about and feeling the foreign texture.

You chuckled and picked her up, walking towards the sea to find a good spot to set up camp. This was Eri's first time at the ocean. After being rescued from Overhaul and formally adopted by you and Shota, she had experienced many firsts. Her first caramel apple, her first stuffed animal, even her first real hug. And now, you and Shota were her first real family.

You found a good spot and set Eri down, smiling as she crouched down to play with the sand, enjoying the texture. Shota followed suit, carrying several bags and two chairs. You chuckled as he struggled to place everything down with his hands so full.

He looked at you laughing and said, "I didn't want to take two trips."

You shook your head and helped him set up, placing a beach towel down for Eri and setting up two chairs for you and Shota. You quickly shed your outer layer and helped Eri do the same. She looked down at her swimsuit and twirled, watching her little skirt poof out at the motion.

You chuckled and held out your hand, letting Eri grab on to it tightly. The two of you walked toward the water as Shota sat back and watched.

You picked up Eri, walking into the water as she clutched onto your neck, watching the water warily. The water splashed around your ankles as you stood there, letting Eri gather her courage.

You sat down in the water, setting Eri on your lap as the water splashed around your body. Eri set her hand in the water, feeling the cool temperature and getting used to the weird motion of the sea.

Once she gathered her courage, she crawled out of your lap and sat down next to you, letting the water splash around her and giggling at the foreign sensation. You chuckled and splashed the water around, making her laugh.

Shota walked down to the water, shovel and pale in hand. Eri watched as he grabbed some water and sand and started making a sandcastle.

She approached his very sloppy castle and asked, "What are you doing?"

"I'm making a sandcastle. Would you like to help?" Shota replied, handing her the shovel and instructing her how to fill the pale with sand.

After a few hours of splashing in the water and sloppy sandcastles, Eri was yawning with exhaustion and nearly falling asleep on her beach towel.

You sighed and smiled, having thoroughly enjoyed your time at the beach.

Shota looked over at Eri and chuckled, "guess it's time to go, huh?"

You hummed in response and started packing your equipment up, folding the chairs, and packing them in the car. Last, you picked up a half-asleep Eri and headed towards the car, setting her in her car seat and buckling her up tight.

Eri woke slightly and smiled. "Thank you," she said, falling back asleep. You smiled, glad to know that she enjoyed her time at the beach and that you and Shota were able to give her the life she deserves.
