Drifting in and out of consciousness.

Draya.

"BAYBEH WATCH OUT!" Was the last thing I heard before sirens blared all around us. And even then I could barely hear them.

You know how they say your life flashes before your eyes when you could be dying? Nothing farther than the last few weeks with August flashed through my head.

Not that I could be dying.

Not about the flashback I was having prior to the accident.

Nothing.

Just August.

August.

We were just driving. Our light was green and the other one was red. As soon as our truck met the intersection, another truck smashed into the drivers side. Sending the X5 rocking in the other direction, eventually turning on its side.

One thing kept crossing my mind, and it wasn't my car.

It was Draya.

Omniscient.

Draya struggled to keep her eyes open as the sirens got louder and louder. She still couldn't really hear them.

Aug's phone buzzed around in the broken glass from the windows. He too was drifting back and forth between stability and consciousness. His mind was telling him to 'survive' even though his body was saying 'give up'. He had to survive.

Mustering up some strength, he kicked some of the shards of glass still in the frame of the front window. He lifted himself out and grabbed his constantly ringing phone.

"Hello!" He yelled in panic.

"Yo man, wassup? You aight?"

"No, fuck no! We jus' got into a accident! I'm cool, it's - she ain't lookin' good man!"

"Whea' y'all at?"

"We was just comin' back into the city. On Baker and Peachtree."

"Here we come man. If y'all leave befa' we get there, just call me back."

"Aight." He hung up and looked at the car as they tried to get the door off.

"Sir, I need you to come with me." A paramedic approached August and he shook his head no. "Sir, you have a gash on the side of your head. I just want to check the depth of the laceration, so I need your full cooperation. " He sighed and followed the paramedic.

She removed the small shard of glass from the cut and as she started to clean it, his family arrived and jumped out the cars before they even stopped completely. They ran over to August.

"What happened?"

"We was comin' back. When we got right chea', a truck flew through da light and smashed into the driver's side." He explained as he hissed from the alcohol in the cleaning solution.

"Who was drivin'?"

"She was." Mama Sheila embraced August in a hug that he desperately needed.

His concern wasn't with the occupants of the other vehicle, it was with Draya and her condition.

He hadn't spoken of her much to anyone besides Travis, and Sneak and Rod already knew. He jumped off the ambulance and walked over to the one with Draya in it.

"Lemme ride wit' ha."

"Are you family?"

"Mhm." The paramedic ushered him in and he sat next to Draya. "Meet us there." He told his family. They nodded, and got back into their vehicles.
