OKAY, BYE MAMAN.

The line went dead with Marinette ending the phone call, feeling better after having a talk with her mother. She was about to go to bed and try to fall asleep when she heard a soft knock sounding against her door. Marinette picked up her phone, checking the time. 11 PM. She groaned silently as she stood up and walked over to the door, wondering who it could be knocking on her door at this time.

“O-Oh, hey Adrien."”

The blonde boy standing behind the door gave a small smile when his eyes landed on the girl, who'd already gotten dressed up in her PJ's and looked to have been preparing to go to sleep. “I hope I'm not bothering you.” His words came out in a worrying tone, but Marinette was quick to tell him otherwise, assuring him that he hadn't bothered her at all.

It had been a lie and Marinette had no idea why it'd even come out, but after having an amazing night with Adrien, which consisted of them talking, cracking jokes and laughing, she felt glad that she'd lied just so he would come in.

Adrien had definitely made her feel better. What she liked most about him was how, even though he was powerful, he was so willing to accept the fact that not everyone could be born with abilities. Adrien seemed to be the only one who understood her so far, but she hoped deep inside that this would change, maybe not soon, but later.

She hoped in the future, Adrien wouldn't be the only powerful one who cared for the lives of the powerless.

❛NEXT MORNING❜

Marinette yawned as she rose up from her bed, her arms raising up as they stretched, satisfying her after she was done. She looked over at the alarm clock sitting on the table next to her bed and grinned to see she'd waken up just in time. First night sleeping at the dorm hadn't been so bad at all, and to be honest, she owed it all to Adrien for making her feel better. Adrien must have left, going back to his own room after she'd fallen asleep, because she remembered his face had been the last thing her eyes set on before she'd dozed off.

Hearing a light knock against her door after she'd taken a quick shower in her bathroom got her hopes set a little high that it may have been Adrien. But in the end, it was Alya, who looked serious, showing that whatever she wanted to talk about must have been severe as well.

“You looked really upset yesterday. I just wanted to make sure you were good. I know the words Chloe said were very harsh and not needed, so I understand if you're still upset—”

“Do you really understand?” Marinette raised her eyebrows in a challenging manner.

Alya seemed to pause for a bit, but her eyes never left Marinette's face. “My mother was a target, and because of how cruel this land is, she got fired after it was released that she had no powers, and never got hired for any jobs no matter how much she begged. Which was why she made the decision to get her own abilities. In the end it worked: surprisingly a guy was willing to give one of his powers away. It disgusted me to the core of how she immediately got praised and all that just because she'd gotten an ability. So yes, I do know what it feels like!”

Marinette looked stunned with what she'd just heard, but for some reason, all she could do was watch as Alya turned and walked out of the room, now looking upset. It made Marinette feel bad, having ruined someone's mood, making them remember such a hurtful memory, so she'd made it her number one priority of the day to talk to Alya when she got the chance and show her she hadn't meant any of her words in a harmful way.
