The alarm clock was rude, so very, very rude for it pulled Rey from the middle of the most wonderful dream and sharply into focus. She jolted up, smashing the snooze button as hard as she possibly could. After dragging herself out of bed, Rey stripped out of her thick pyjamas and into her jumpsuit as quickly as possible, trying not to spend too much time in the nude due to the cold air that was blowing through the gaps of her window.
"Good morning, Reybae!" Rey heard the cheerful Scottish accent of her roommate as she emerged from their shared bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body.
"Really, Aubrey?" Rey said, slipping a jumper on over her head. "I thought you agreed not to call me that anymore."
The sound of Rey's phone buzzing brought her attention away from Aubrey and to her nightstand.
"Your phone's been making noises all night! Driving me bloody mad! You're lucky you're a heavy sleeper, Reybae." Aubrey said from behind her, making Rey scoff at the stupid nickname as she sat on her bed and checked her phone.
Fourteen missed calls from Xavier.
"Oh, God." Rey muttered under her breath.
"What? What is it?" Said Aubrey, who was now fully clothed, practically leaping towards Rey and looking over her shoulder. "Xavier? The guy you hooked up with... a month ago?"
"Yep." Said Rey with a loud groan, flopping down onto a laying position on the bed. "He doesn't want to leave me alone. Calls me every- single- day."
"He sounds weird. Where did you even meet this bloke?"
"I attended a playwriting workshop with him." This wasn't necessarily a lie; Rey did attend a playwriting workshop and Xavier was there too. What she failed to mention was that Xavier was the teacher, and the workshop was on campus.
"Oh! That reminds me," Aubrey exclaimed, jumping up off the bed and picking up her flip-flops. "I have a playwriting lecture in ten minutes! I'll see you later, Reybae!"
"See you!" Rey said, sitting up and blowing kisses at her friend as she exited, disappearing behind the front door. She took this as her cue to leave for her own class; Acting.
For as long as Rey could remember, she had always had a passion for all things performing arts. Even after her parents had abandoned her at a young age and left her at an orphanage, she always made sure she never lost her creative edge.
After slipping into her sneakers and grabbing her purse, Rey left her dorm room and made her way towards the school theatre.
After arriving outside the theatre and checking her watch, Rey could see that she still had half an hour until her lesson would begin. Therefore she decided to grab a coffee from the cafe on campus, since her and Aubrey watched Hamilton last night and didn't end up going to bed until very late, meaning she was very tired.
"I'll have a cappuccino to go, please." Rey said. "Oh! And a flapjack! I haven't eaten yet."
"Anything for you, Miss Miller." Said Kevin, Rey's favourite barista, with a wide smile.
Miller wasn't Rey's real surname, of course, she was adopted at eight years old and that was the name that was given to her, even though she did view her adopted parents as her real parents since they had looked after her so well for the majority of her life.
When she finally got her coffee and flapjack, Rey payed and thanked the barista, before checking the clock and leaving. She still had ten minutes until she had to be at her lesson, so she decided to just go since it would do her no harm to arrive early.
