Later that night, Nova, Anne, and Jerry made it to Jospehine Barry's house. The night was a blur, Nova couldn't really focus on what was going on in her reality because she was stuck in the past.
Nova laid down in the bedroom with Anne and Jerry. She didn't pay attention to what they were saying until Anne snapped her out of her deep thoughts.
"Nova!" The red head snapped in Nova's face to get her attention. Nova turned her head quickly over to Anne. "Are you okay?" The blonde girl nodded, "I'm just tired." She said with a small, slight smile. She laid her head back down, slowly falling asleep listening to Anne and Jerry have a quiet conversation.

Anne, Jerry, and Nova made their way back to Green Gables. The trip back was full of cold weather and snow, which Nova absolutely loved. She felt the snow fall onto her rosy cheeks and on her blonde hair. The group finally made it back to Avonlea, where Jerry and Anne dropped Nova off at her residence. Nova turned around, she smiles, "Thank you for bringing me along, I really needed that." Anne smiles back, "Of course! I'll see you at school?" Nova nods and waves at them while they ride away.

The winter was very uneventful, even Nova Andrews 16th birthday, she expected a letter from the boy who left her behind or a birthday party but her family seemed to have forgotten all about it, which, sadly, didn't bother the blonde. She enjoyed staying to herself and having the whole day. Nova grabbed her journal and sat in front of the fireplace in the living room, feeling the warmth on her skin, she opened the leather book to the next page.
'Today is the day I turn another age. I grow closer to being a woman. Closer to being able to be my own person. I want to get out of Avonlea and be happy. Go travel, see the world and see what it has in store for me.'

Spring made its appearance in the small town of Avonlea, meaning the flowers and trees were blooming, dew is on the ground, life seemed easier with all of the sunshine.
While the sun was shining in her room, Nova felt as if she needed a change. The blonde stood in front of her mirror and wanted something to change.
She kept thinking to herself about what if her hair were a bit shorter? What if her mother had a conniption and send to her death?
Nova took a deep breath and grabbed the scissors and cut off her long curls to a shoulder length cut.
Nova gave herself a small smile and continued on the rest of her hair.
When she was done, she stared at herself once more in the mirror and was oddly satisfied with it. She put on her yellow, frilly dress and stuck her hair in her usual half up, half down look with a white bow to go in her hair as well. Nova made sure her appearance was suitable and made her way down the stairs. She trotted her way into the kitchen to where everyone else was. Her mother turned around, "Good morn-." The mother cut herself off with a gasp when she saw Nova's new hairdo. "Nova Josephine Andrews! What did you do?!"
Nova looked shocked at her mother, "Um, uh, I felt as if I needed a change. So I went with what was right in front of me, my hair." She grabbed her hair, showing a strand of hair. "I like it. I think I look pretty." Nova smiled.
The mother hesitantly nodded with wide eyes, "Okay. I'm sorry I yelled. It just shocked me." She takes another look at the young girl's hair then turns around to grab something. "Something came for you in the mail." She says handing the young lady a letter.
Nova grabbed it, then her heartbeat started speeding up as soon as she saw the handwriting. "Okay, thank you! Um, I'm gonna sit outside." Nova said hurriedly, she grabbed her jacket and raced herself outside. After finally fixing the jacket around her petite body, she sat down beside the old oak tree and opened the letter. Nervously, she takes the paper out of the envelope and opens it to reveal his handwriting.
'Dear Nova,
I know I haven't written to you and I truly apologize for that. It's been busy here on the steamer, not a day goes by that I don't find myself thinking of you. I wish you could see how beautiful the water is, with the sun beaming down. The sunsets are so vivid with their wide array of colors reflecting off of the ocean.
Yesterday I witnessed a family of dolphins swimming and jumping alongside the steamer. They were so free and so full of life, that I immediately thought of you. I wish you could be here to see this with me. I have had the opportunity to see so many new places and meet so many new people, I have even made a new friend named Bash. Bash is from Trinidad, and is excited to show me around once we get there.
I hope everything is going well in Avonlea. Life is so different out here, while new and exciting, I still find myself homesick and looking forward to the day I am able to return. I have had a lot of time to think about what I want to say to you. Mostly, I want to say I miss you. I can't wait to be able to tell you all about my travels and adventures and hope you will tell me the exciting things that have happened in Avonlea.
Until we meet again, tell everyone I said hello and please take care. I know this is late but happy belated birthday. I wish I could have celebrated it with you.
Missing you,
Gilbert'
Nova felt bittersweet. Her heart felt like it wanted to burst but she wasn't sure if it was because of him speaking to her with his charming ways or if her heart was going to break from how much she missed him. Missing him got easier as time went on, she learned how to cope with it.
She felt a couple of tears roll down her cheeks. Her eyes closed, trying to prevent more from falling. She held onto the note while she eventually found the will to get up and go back inside. Every step she took, her heart ached for the boy that left her behind. Life felt so hard at that moment, she just wanted to be in the arms of the boy she has been longing for ever since he stepped foot on that steamer.
Nova eventually walked through the front door and looked to her right to see Prissy and Jane sitting in the living room area, doing needle point. They heard Nova's footsteps and looked up.
"Are you o- Woah." Prissy said, staring at Nova's short, shoulder length hair. Jane looks and stares at her twin with wide eyes. "Oh my goodness, what did you do? Mother is going to be livid."
Nova finally noticed what they were talking about, she gave a small smirk. "Well I'm sure I can't make her more mad than she already is. But I like it." Prissy smiles and nods, "I like it too. It suits you."
Jane smiles and nods her head, getting back to her needlepoint.
