27. We need to talk

Summer vacation is right around the corner and Jake and I haven't talked about it at all. At some point I'm sure I'm visiting my grandma just like every year, but I would love to spend some of the summer with Jake too. Obviously.

Everytime I try to ask him, he just says: "I don't know." So, I don't know. He has been really weird lately. Jackson tried to ask him about drugs but he didn't get anything out of him, something is wrong for sure though!

"What are you going to do this summer?" I ask Joanne at the cafeteria.

"Same as every year, I'm going to spend the whole summer with my grandmother. What about you?"

"I don't know." I shrug.

"Still no answer from Jake?"

"Nope..."

"He's been weird."

"Definitely! I'm afraid I'm just going to spend the whole summer alone."

Jake and Jackson walk to our table and sit next to us. Jackson says hey to us but Jake just stays silent, like he doesn't even notice us.

"What are you going to do this summer?" I ask from Jackson.

"I'm graduating, so I'm gonna party so hard and I'm gonna be drunk all summer. Jackson laughs.

"Well of course." I smile. "What about you Jake?" I ask and he doesn't even look at me.

He doesn't answer, I'm sure he heard me.

"Jake!" Jackson says louder and pushes Jake a little bit.

"What?" He says.

"Your girlfriend just asked you a question." Jackson says. "Your girlfriend, remember her?"

"Yeah?" Jake says and looks at me, he looks annoyed.

"I was just asking what are you going to do this summer?"

"I have told you, I don't know!" Jake raises his voice like he is getting angry.

"Jake, what the fuck?" Jackson asks.

"Fuck you Jake. Fuck you!" I stand up and look deep into his eyes. "You know, I wanted to spend some time with you this summer, but apparently you don't wanna spend any time with me!" I storm out of the cafeteria, Joanne running after me.

"He is so weird." Joanne says when we reach the girls bathroom.

"Right!" I walk back and forth so I wouldn't cry.

"Has Jackson said anything to you about Jake? Does he know about drugs or anything?"

"He hasn't said anything.

"Something is going on! That's for sure."

Jake is just getting more and more weird, distant, I would say. He has started skipping school, he has gotten into several fights and honestly, he doesn't look so good. He looks tired, he has bags under his eyes, his acne has gotten worse and he is clearly losing weight. He has always been skinny so he definitely shouldn't be losing any more weight. He is also very quiet or he gets mad over nothing, he goes from 0 to 100 in a second. I was with him two days ago and he barely said anything, we were laying on his bed and I tried asking him what's wrong but he didn't answer. When I was leaving, he told me he loves me, kissed me and I got home and I cried.
