Carter embraced me in a tight hug. "Well you got taller, didn't you?" His voice was smooth. "Yeah I person can grow a lot in 5 years Carter!" It felt like I was completed. I mean not seeing my best friend for 5 years! That really can do some damage to a persons heart. "Wow, it feels like just yesterday we were like 6 year old at the park. And now we're technically adults." I smiled at him. It felt nice to be reunited with someone I was so close too. "Yeah. I it's hard to believe that were 18 already. Oh so how was England?" He smiled and a look of excitement washed over his face. "It. Was. Amazing! There were such beautiful sights! And the place I stayed at was so organized-" There he goes again. He's a neat freak. And not like I would ever tell him this, but it was kinda annoying. "Carter, that's not a big deal. You're such a perfectionist!" He looked me in the eyes, "Hey I shared a room with Nick for my entire childhood! He was a mess!" Nick is Carter's twin brother. He was really quiet, and apparently very messy. Like the opposite of Carter, weird for identical twins huh? "So El, word on the street is you've gotta little crush on a mister Calum Hood?" He nudged my shoulder and smirked. "Wait-how did-but I-" Carter shook his head. "Word gets around. You don't realize how big his band is really getting, do you? Their all over Europe, and Australia. Just not big in the United States yet. And media will find any way they can to report about them, especially if they've got their eye on a girl, hint hint, you." Carters hands flailed as he spoke, average hand talker moments. I kicked his foot and smiled. "Stop..." He laughed at my embarrassment. "Aww. Is El upset? I'm sorry." Jeez, Carter hadn't changed a bit. He was still like a brother to me, and felt the need to make fun of me. All the time. My mind was brought back to reality when I felt my hand flinch with the vibration of my phone. Calum. Carter gave me yet another smirk. "I bet that's lover boy right now." My cheeks burned with redness. He snuck a glance at the screen in my hands. I quickly shut it off, but not before Carter had a good idea of who it was. "And I was right wasn't I?" He nudged my shoulder again. A small laugh entering the air. "Oh, Elaine." "Listen Carter I have to go, but I'll text you later. Okay?" He gave me a wink. "Off to hang with your boy, fine with me" He winked and started to walk away. "See ya later alligator." That's how he always used to say goodbye as kids. Must be a habit by now. "We're not 5 Carter, just say goodbye." He laughed. "Goodbye then." And with that he was gone.

"Hey Cal." I called Calum in the hopes that I could tell him that Carter was back from England. I was so excited to see him again. And I wanted to share the excitement with Calum. He had also called me earlier, so maybe he had some god news too. The signal on my phone wasn't too clear, but it was clear enough. "Uh, oh hey." His usual lively voice seemed to have been replaced with a dull quiet recording. "Calum, are you ok?" I heard the crumbling of paper through the phone. "Yeah, I'm good." "What's wrong? You called earlier, is there something you wanted to tell me?" The only sound in my ears at this moment was the sound of my own breathing. "Calum?" His sad voice came from the other end, sounding like a kid who had just been told his dreams would never come true. "I didn't mean to call, must've accidentally dialed your number or something. But I have to go." "Calum are you sure you're okay, you can tell me if-" "I'm fine!"
The line went dead.
