Madeline looked at Ashton with a bright smile on her face. "C'mon! We have to go on it, the swings are my favorite part of the carnival!" Ashton's face was pale like a ghost had taken over his body. "Maddie, I can't..." She tugged his arm roughly, his sweatshirt sleeve slowly traveling down his arm. "Ash..." Her lip curled up like a puppy, "Please?" Ashton let out a small sigh. "Madz, I'm..." I couldn't make out the rest of the sentence. Ashton had said it through gritted teeth. Madeline looked at him with confusion. "What?" Ashton rolled his eyes, being louder than he had to be, "I'm afraid of heights Ok?" His arm jerked, throwing Madeline off of it. "Aw Ash why didn't you just say so?" He shrugged his shoulders. "Alright I don't like this bum mood. So I am obliged to buy you a milkshake." A small smile appeared on his face, and he shrugged again. Madeline slid her head under his arm. Letting it wrap itself around her neck. "Let's go!" She turned to Calum and I, her dark curls whipping in a flawless half , 90 degree, circle. "And as for you two. Don't have too much fun." She winked and started her way towards the food stands.

Calum gave me a glance, "So, since I happen to like heights myself; how would you like to take a stroll with me to the swings?" I let my hand fall into his. "Let's do it." A flood of relief filled my body. I had been nervous to ask Calum to go onto the rides with me, because I haven't really been to a carnival with him before. And I don't know if he thought rides were childish or if he had a secret fear of some sort. Plus the swings were my favorite ride, and I finally had a partner to sit with.

I lowered the metal bar across my lap. The coldness of it touching my leggings causing my skin to shiver. The metal slightly brushing over my ripped jean shorts. Calum had wandered in circles around the swings, insisting that he had to find "the perfect one." He chose two swings farthest from where we had entered. Proclaiming that these two swings were the luckiest ones. I couldn't help but laugh at the comment. He had helped me into the basket of the small metal chair, saying that he wanted to be a gentlemen. As soon as we were tightly secured to the seats, I could see Calum's skinny legs start to sway unevenly back and forth. A look of excitement washing over him. The metal chains above him twisting and turning along the rails above us.

The slow sound of machinery begun as the ride started to spin. Calum looked me directly in my face, his eyes gleaming with joy. "Elaine! It's starting!" His excitement over this made me smile, it's nice to see him so happy. The wind seemed to throw my hair behind me, making Calum stare. It was quite embarrassing. His leg reached out to the side of him, brushing the edge of my foot. Followed by a fast wink in my direction "Mr. Hood! Are you flirting with me?" The air around me filled with laughter, "I'm rubbing off on you aren't I?" A smile was glued onto his face, and laughter escaped through his teeth. He put his arms out to the side, shaking them and making airplane noises. The childish act causing my laughter to increase in volume. He gave me a smirk, "I know I'm hilarious." I threw my own arms out on either side of me, and moved my lips, causing a somewhat airplane like sound to emerge. Calum's eyes locked on mine. "I really am rubbing off on you aren't I?" His voice seemed surprised. And I shrugged not knowing if I could speak without breaking into yet another, laugh.

His arm purposely hit the outer edge of my hand. And his voice grew higher on every syllable he spoke. "You can't admit it can you? You, as much as you wanna be mature, act exactly like I do!" I couldn't wipe the grin off my face. Calum was having way too much fun with this. "Yes Calum, I am a bit like you." He turned his focus back to the swing in front of him, and began to quietly sing, "I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" His arms were now held close to his chest. His small balled up fists rotating in circles with the tune of his singing voice. "Oh Calum, you really are one of a kind, aren't you?" He nodded his head, "Yes I am. And so are you. Were kinda like opposites." "Opposites? Calum what does anything we're discussing have to do with being opposites?" He stopped singing and turned to face me once again. "Because opposites attract. And my mind is VERY attracted to you." He winked, his cheesy attempt to flirt surprisingly causing me to blush.
And, with a look of satisfaction on his face, he went back to singing his annoying little song.
