star gazing

i gaze up at the stars tonight
they twinkle at me
as though they're waving good night
but the brightest one of them all
who I thought could never shed the light
fell right through the sky

she fell and she fell
until she was out of sight
i closed my eyes and
wished for her to come right back
but when I opened them
she never did

she was just a fallen star
like many before her
her shine went out
and she fell out of sight
