Itachi x Reader (See you in the Afterlife?)

Third Person's P.O.V.

"We're back!" Kisame announced as they arrived at the Akatsuki base. (Y/N) was on the couch reading her book and her head instantly turned to Itachi when she heard Kisame's voice.

Itachi was not stumbling but he was walking slower and (Y/N) could tell that his illness was getting worse. Itachi walked towards (Y/N) and sat beside her, he rested his head on her shoulder and without saying anything he passed out.

"Is something wrong with Itachi he looks very sick?" Konan asked looking at Itachi who was now laying on (Y/N)'s lap. (Y/N) shot Kisame and worried look, the only person that knows about his illness was her and Kisame.

"We got into a little fight with someone earlier he's probably just tired." Kisame lied, (Y/N) mouthed the word 'thanks' to him for and he nodded back at her.

(Y/N) ran her fingers along his hair while humming a lullaby quietly. Itachi looked very different now, he was skinnier, his skin was pale, he had bags under his eyes and if you look at him for long you could just tell that he was very sick.

It hurt (Y/N) a lot to watch him suffer, she knew the whole truth about Itachi and she knew that eventually Sasuke would come for him to kill him. (Y/N) knows that Itachi planned on dying in Sasuke's hands and she didn't like it because losing Itachi means losing person she loved the most. But she knew how much Itachi loved Sasuke and that he was doing this whole thing for the sake of him so she tried to accept it.

(Y/N) carried him to their room and never left his side until he woke up.

Three days. They had another three days to spend time together before Itachi was going to fight Sasuke.

A tear trickled down (Y/N)'s cheek as she watched Itachi sleep, she tried to fight them back but they just kept falling. (Y/N) nuzzled her head on Itachi's chest and hugged him closer to her body.

Itachi woke up to the sound of (Y/N) sobbing on his chest, he already knew the reason why she was crying and comforted her while rubbing her back.

"I'm sorry. I know I promised you I wouldn't cry but I just cant-! I- I don't want you to die, I-" (Y/N) cried, choking on her own tears.

"Shh. It's okay." Itachi said pulling her into the bed so she could lay right next to him and hugged her as tight as he could.

He let (Y/N) cry on his chest and it broke his heart seeing her cry because of him.

"I'm sorry (Y/N)." He brushed her hair with his fingers, "I'm sorry I can't give you the life you always wanted." He cupped her chin and lift her face up.

"You can still give it to me Itachi. You don't need to fight Sasuke just tell him the whole truth he might not understand yet but he'll forgive you. I know he will!" she cried giving him hopeful eyes.

Itachi wiped her tears with his thumb "It's too late to ask for forgiveness (Y/N) and I'm doing this because I have to. I need to finish what I started."

"Then let me help you!" (Y/N) begged.
"You've already done enough. So let me help you. I'll come with you when you meet Sasuke we can talk it out." no matter how little the chance she had to change Itachi's mind she doesn't want give up.

"Do you not understand (Y/N)? I murdered my whole clan! Killed innocent children! I even killed my oven my own parents! I need to die and Sasuke has to be the one to kill me. This is my punishment and I deserve it!" he snapped sitting up and letting go of her.

(Y/N) was surprised with his sudden outburst and just looked at him shocked. Itachi sighed and cupped her cheeks "I'm sorry." He said and rubbed her cheek with his thumb. "You have to be strong for me (Y/N). We both have to be strong." he said.
