To its fullest

It´s been 6 weeks now since he passed. I remember this day like it was yesterday. Adam asked if I want to drive to the beach, make a short road trip, if I want to escape reality for a short period of time. We were jamming out to our favourite song, screaming from the top of our lungs, enjoying life. I only remember pieces from the actual crash, but I remember the emptiness I felt deep in my heart.
The days after Adam died in that horrible accident where very difficult for all of us.
At first, you don’t really realise that he´s gone, then everything, the whole weight of reality, crashes down. You ask yourself questions like “Why him?” “Why wasn’t it me instead?” or “Why do the best people always have to die first”. To some questions you´ll never find an answer. The death of Adam influenced lots of people. Suddenly you get a whole new point of view of certain things.
And now he´s gone. But just because we can’t see him anymore, it doesn’t mean he won´t be remembered. He was a wonderful older brother. Caring, loving, funny, but mostly wise. He told me many quotes, but most times  I wouldn´t even listen. Now I regret it sometimes, many “what if” questions run through my head, but we can´t turn back time. The only thing I know is that he would´ve wanted me to share his wisdom.
I never really understood the quote “live every day of your life like it´s the last”. I always thought it was something that you say to your grandchildren, something without an important meaning. But his death has teached me otherwise. You never know when you´ll die. It can happen at sixty, at forty, you can die from a sickness, ,in an accident. You never know when it will happen, you just know it will. Some people spend their life worrying, thinking about what could possibly happen. They never risk anything, they stay in their small town, they´re alive but don´t really live.
Adam was completely different. Always doing something, planning a new adventure, hanging out with his friends, living life to the fullest. And he always wanted me to do the same. I know he’s watching me from up above, he will be by my side forever.
I know I won´t die knowing I never risked anything. I won´t look at my life when im older, thinking that I wasted all my years worrying. I´d like to see the world, meet new people, make Adams dreams come true. Of course, you´ll never know when your life will end, but till that day, you´ll have to live life to its fullest. Scientist found out, that in the last minutes of your life you see your life passing in front of your eyes. Make it worth watching.
There´s another thing he always told me, which I now understand. I remember the day he first told me “as long as you´re happy doing what you´re doing, nobody can tell you you´re not successful”. I asked him what this would mean. The only thing he told me was “you´ll know when you´re ready”.
Although Adam was a very smart man with good grades, he decided not to study, but to make his dream come true. He worked in a kindergarden and he loved it, it made him happy. Some people said “you´re wasting your time” “use your brain” or “you have the possibility, get a job, make money” but he continued to follow his dream. I think this quote tells you to do what makes you happy. It tells you to ignore the voices that say you need to have tons of money to be successful. success isn’t defined by money. When you´re happy with your job, you´re successful.
