20. rain

RAIN

emma felt weird, and not just because she was high.

having her ex and current fiancé in a small hotel room with her was so confusing. not only had her and luke come close to kissing more than once, but the blonde had also confessed to still loving her.

and now, she looked like a deer in the headlights as her eyes darted between luke and caleb.

she was a little frustrated that caleb had shown up out of the blue, making her think he either doesn't trust her or intentionally wanted to crash her weekend with luke.

"i haven't heard from you since you left, i was worried sick about you" he spoke, gripping her shoulders.

"damn it — i totally spaced," emma groaned and pressed her fingers against her temples. "i'm sorry, i haven't even looked at my phone today but i should have called you"

luke was awkwardly sat on his bed, watching the two interact. what in the hell was the point in caleb driving all the way out here?

he could have easily gotten luke's number from maya and contacted him.

but luke also recognized that caleb randomly showing up provided a good distraction from his little slip up earlier.

the couple exchanged a few more words, and luke winced as emma threw her arms around caleb, laughing and smiling like she was thrilled he was here.

luke grunted and got settled back into his bed, he would rather watch tangled by himself than watch emma and caleb together.

"how was the rave?" caleb asked. he pulled emma on her bed, copying the position that she and luke were in a few minutes ago.

"fine until you showed up" luke mumbled under his breath, causing caleb's head to snap towards the blonde.

"what was that?" he asked.

"nothing, the rave was great" luke said a little louder this time, his eyes staying glued to the television screen.

"thanks for keeping an eye on her tonight, you're a good friend" as caleb spoke, luke could almost hear the underlying smirk hiding in his voice.

"not a problem," luke forced a smile. "hey em, did you wanna sleep in my sweatpants tonight or were you gonna change?" luke asked, intentionally bringing it to caleb's attention that emma was wearing luke's clothes.

the brunette blushed and glanced down at her legs, wiggling her toes that were hidden under the cotton material. "they're warm, i'll wear them for the night" she smiled to herself as luke and caleb glared at one another.

"you gonna be staying the night?" luke asked, his eyebrow raising in curiosity.

"i drove all the way here, so i might as well," caleb spoke with a giddy look on his face. "that alright with you, em?"

emma hated the nickname coming from his mouth, it just didn't sound right. it didn't cause her stomach to be swarmed with butterflies.

luke didn't like it either, as his jaw instantly clenched and his face dropped.

but regardless, the girl nodded, pulling caleb closer to her body. "yeah, we were just about to go to sleep anyways"

emma laid on her side so she was facing luke, just waiting for him to glance over at her like she thought he would.

it was clear luke wasn't happy about caleb's arrival, and emma couldn't help but feel bad. if she had just called him one time, maybe he wouldn't have felt inclined to drive here.
