Chapter Twelve

It had been a month since Bucky got out of Cyro, he was adjusting to life with one arm surprisingly well.

You spent time with him every Friday, you would sit down with him and relay the stories Steve would tell you about them two and from Bucky's childhood.

You would work along side Shuri in sessions, Bucky felt comfortable with you both around.

"Go ahead Sergeant Barnes, I will have your report to you by the end of today. Your doing very, very well." Shuri said with a smile, he smiled and headed out. As you went to leave Shuri grabbed your arm, "can we have a chat?" She asked you, "of course." You said with a smile.

"Mr. Barnes is responding the best when you are around. He, he feels comfortable when being around you. He relaxes and his mind seems more at peace. I know this is a big ask, but I'd there any chance you, you could maybe spend more time with him? I think it would be beneficial to him." Shuri asked, "of course, anything to help." You said with a smile, "wow, you answered that quick." She said with a smirk, "like I said Princess. I got nothing going for me." You said walking away.

"What a nitwit. A beautiful stupid nitwit." Shuri said shaking her head and walking away as she saw you walking with Bucky.

The night was still pretty young but Bucky asked if you wanted too go for a walk, he wanted to properly show you around out back.

"So you and Steve huh? How did he land someone so, so opposite to him?" Bucky asked, you laughed. "Oh Barnes, I think even a child would be the opposite of America's Golden Boy. We crossed paths most mornings and then he asked me on a date. And we kind of took it from there. He introduced me to the other avengers and then a year or so later he kissed Sharon Carter and then when I stupidly agreed to help him again, he kissed her again." You said sadly.

"so why did you help me?" Bucky asked, "Because I knew how much you meant to Steve. And I knew how much Tony Stark feared me." You said with a smirk. "Plus, you didn't deserve, you've never deserved anything that has ever happened to you and I wanted to use my badass for something useful. At least you appreciate it." You said smiling at him, "what do you mean at least I appreciate it?" Bucky asked looking confused, "well, your best friend didn't appreciate me showing up, he was a bit of a dick, but once I saw what they had done to you, I don't think it was a favour for Steve anymore. It was for you, I had to get you out." You said, Bucky looked down at you.

"And you helped me with King T'Challa?" Bucky questioned, "slightly." I said to him, he had a confused look on his face again, "I proved your innocence. Once again you did nothing and I just proved that, T'Challa giving you refuge was his idea, all I did was send the paperwork." You said. He gave you a smile, "oh and to give you peace of mind, you didn't kill Starks parent's, again it was another ploy too turn the avengers against each other. I've sent the paperwork too Stark but S.H.E.I.L.D came after me before I managed to speak to him." You added.

"S.H.E.I.L.D came after you because of me?" He said with a sad face. "No, no. S.H.E.I.L.D came after me because I helped Captain America break his friends out of a highly secured unknown underwater prison and then got two of them off the hook on house arrest. You had nothing what so ever to do with it. I was your lawyer I was allowed to be around you." You said with a big smile, "there's worse thing in the world than what you think you are Sergeant. Times have moved on, to be completely honest with you, there are worse things you can watch on the internet or do with the internet. Your no longer a monster, you never were. You had been controlled by some over achieving, control hungry assholes." You said, he smirked at you, "yeah I'm pretty sure the blonde one would never have a mouth like you do." He said smiling brightly, "wowwww sergeant Barnes dropping bombs." You said holding your heart and throwing your head back, Bucky stared at you, "I knew from that smirk you gave me in that car park you were going to be a little shit. I can see why you used to get all the ladies." You said laughing.

Bucky took you to the lake near his hut, your face lit up. "Bucky, this is beautiful." You smiled, he smiled back at you. "Did you want to go in?" He asked softly, you smiled brightly and nodded your head. You both walked into the water and it was warmer than you expected. So you laid down in the water, Bucky watched you intently, as you stood up the moon shone on you, it outlined your silhouette, if Bucky wasn't a super soldiered wouldn't have been able to see your body swaying towards him, the moon shining of the drops of water coming of your elbows from you pushing your hair back, he swallowed unaware of the feelings growing in his chest.

He smiled as he watched you move about the water, you looked very peaceful like you had not a care in the world.

After some time you got out and sat in front of Bucky'S hut with him. "Thank you for showing me this Bucky, it's really beautiful." You said, he stared at you again. "Your welcome. I'll walk you back too your room." He said offering you a hand up.

As you walked back to your room you spoke of one of the last stories Steve told you. "He told me, you and him had gone to a fair of some kind and you spent all of your money on winning some teddy for a dame, but she'd run off before you could give it to her and then you and Steve had to walk home." You smiled, Bucky shook his head laughing. "Punk." He said softly, "so, did you have to carry Steve home? I know that little asthmatic never would have made it." You laughed, Bucky let out a belly laugh. "No. Surprisingly he made it. It wasn't too much off a walk." He smiled holding onto his stomach, "Ahh good too know." You laughed, you stopped outside your door. "Thanks for today Barnes. I hope you sleep well." You said, "Night Y/L/N." He said and walked away.
