Chapter 24: Fates (Part 1) (Yorknew Arc Part 14)

The couple dashed furiously through the city, leaping across buildings of all sorts, making their way to the base where they resided. Regrettably, their escapade with Olweid was costly of time, and minimized the amount they had to return. They didn't even know exactly where they were going either, which only added to their list of problems. Kiyoto, still in the midst of running across a building, pulled out his phone to check the time.

'SHIT!!' He halted to a stop, getting Machi's attention.

"What is it?" She asked, wondering why they stopped.

"We've got ten minutes, so unless we know exactly where we're going... um..." He twiddled his thumbs, and looked away from her eyes. Machi stepped back in fear, and pointed a finger at him.

"No. No no no. We're not doing that again! If we're late, we're late, and that's all there is to it!"

"But you know that's the only way we'll get there on time! We might as well do what we can whenever possible!" He pleaded.

"... I swear, Kiyoto, you better make sure I don't go flying off."

"Machi, that's on you, hehe." Kiyoto bent down, letting Machi get on his back. Once she wrapped her arms tightly around him, he let his aura loose.

"Musical Spirit: Highway to Oblivion."

Kiyoto's speed was buffed to nearly his absolute max, and his aura shined a bright white that could be seen by hunters for miles.

"Oh no..."

With the first step, Kiyoto was already 6 buildings ahead. He wasn't exactly sure where the base was relative to himself, so this was the only option, given that he was already close to being late. Machi was having a very... not so fun time trying to hold on. Sure, she was quite fast and powerful in comparison to most, and she could dash at near blinding speeds, but this was nothing like that. Looking behind her, she saw that there was damage being caused simply by the airflow taking the space that Kiyoto had previously sped through.

Kiyoto, while running, continued to check his phone, watching as the time trickled down to 5 pm. He'd covered an unimaginable amount of ground, and still he'd nothing he recognized.

By then, he'd had to switch to a different song just to keep up his speed. Things were looking bleak, when he squinted and saw a familiar structure. Leaping across multiple buildings at once, he sped towards the base where the rest of the troupe was residing. As he approached the final building before the one they'd been searching for, he prepared to land, and jump onto to the roof of it, but right as he attempted the feat, he slipped on a patch of dust without losing any speed, and was sent barreling into the base.

Machi managed to protect herself, same as Kiyoto, but that didn't hold true for the concrete wall. When they smashed into it, they crushed it completely, and hit a wall on the other side, albeit not breaking it due to their diminished speed. Once they hit the opposite end, they fell down to the ground, in front of the rest of the Troupe. Their bodies were sprawled out across the floor, and their groaning was audible to those watching them.

"Um... would either one of you care to explain?" Phinks asked. Machi, ignoring the question, got up, and picked up Kiyoto by the scruff of his shirt.
