Work was exhausting. My legs felt swollen and my bones ached to be resting in a bed.
I trudge alongside the sidewalk, mindful of the puddles. The full moon reflects in the water, making the street glisten and shimmer like glitter. The air is strange, an eeriness passes over me like a breeze. I continue down the street, watching over my shoulder for someone that isn't there. I'm so close to home. I just wanted to relax and watch movies with Alex.
As I get lost in my thoughts about what to watch later, I hear shuffling somewhere to my right in an ally. Someone wearing a hood throws themselves at me and I jump out of my skin. Their hand covers my mouth and their arm snakes around my throat.
Oh god, please no.
I kick and thrash against them and they slam me up against the brick wall in the darkness. My cries of protest are muffled as the stranger gropes me looking for something. My phone buzzes and he finds it easily. He tosses it further down the ally and it lands in a puddle.
"Stop moving, I just need some cash man." He says as if all of this is my fault.
Tears travel down my face and I go to thrust my knee between us. I sudden pressure begins in my left side, a numbness that makes me shift uncomfortably.
"Fuck, I told you to stop moving." He hisses as he pulls my wallet from my pocket.
An immediate burning like I've never felt before makes me sink to the ground. I touch my hand to the area and when I bring my hand back all I see is red. I cough and blood sprays from my mouth. I see something silver glint in the moonlight before the stranger drops my empty wallet at my feet. He pockets the cash and takes off in the opposite direction of the street.
No, please don't leave me here.
I tilt and end up laying on my side. The taste of iron fills my mouth and blood pools around me. I stare up at the sky and realise I have been here before. I mean, I haven't been stabbed before but the deja vu is overwhelming. The moon peers down at me in all it's full bright glory. The cold chills me to my bones. I want to cry, but I couldn't even find my voice.
This sucks. I wanted to watch a movie with Alek, not get stabbed in some disgusting dingy ally.
Just as his name crosses my mind I hear the thumping of heavy boots. They're quick paced and clearly frantic. I hear them coming closer when suddenly the stop and I think I'm dreaming for a second.
"Mason?" Comes his voice and I want to sob at the beautiful sound, but all I can manage is to choke up more blood. "Oh fuck, Mason." He says, scared.
He rushes over to me and my vision tilts even thought I'm lying still. He kneels down and moves me flat onto my back so he can press a hand against my wound. I look at the stars and how they twinkle in the sky.
"No no no, don't you go anywhere. I'm going to heal you, just... fuck, just stay there." He says frantically trying to keep my body in my body where it's supposed to be.
He closes his eyes and attempts using magic. He tries and tries and tries. I choke roughly and my vision blackens around the corners of my eyes. Tears slip down my skin at the sight of him looking so afraid. He gathers me in his arms and I wheeze painfully.
"I'm going to fix you, Mason. Whatever it takes... I'm going to fix you..." He says and I feel his whole chest shake with a sob. My vision fades and I close my eyes.
I believe you, my darling. I believe you.
