When she got to their building she saw Jenna's car parked across the street, Jane didn't like Jenna, from the day they had met. Jenna was actually pretty nice, everyone liked her, including Tam and Jack, but Jane just didn't. “Hey Jane!” Speaking of the devil. “I was just going upstairs, are you coming” Jenna called out from the elevator, holding the doors open. “Sure” said Jane as she jumped in the cabin.
“How was school?” Typical of Jenna to do small talk. “Fine.” Jane never played along.
The elevator stopped and before Jane could open the door Nick's girlfriend stepped in front of her. “Listen Jane” she said seriouslly. “I need you to be nice today, I know that you don't really like me, but please try, okay?”
“Why?” This was really strange, and her day had already been strange...
But Jenna didn't answer, she opened the door and went inside. Jane was alone in the hallway, she was just astonished. But after a while Nick opened the door. “Jane!” He said in a surprised tone. “Why are you outside? Come in.” And he parcticly shoved her inside the apartment. She almost fell on the table, their apartment was considerably small, and every thing was all carmped up.
“Jane!” It was Jenna. “I didn't think you were showing up!” This was enraging Jane. “I wasn't, but I didn't really have an option!” She was shouting, but she didn't care, the anger was to much to bear anymore. “Jane watch your tone!” Nick intervened. “I don't want you to cause a bad impresion on Scott”. Wait. What? “Scott? Who is Scott?”
“I am.” There he was in the corner of the room, she hadn't seen him before. “Actually I believe we've met Ms. Blackenstern” Oh my god. This couln't be happening, she ignored hin and turned to her uncle. “What is he doing here?” Jenna answered. “He is my cousin, and where did you too meet?”
“At school, but our conversacion wasn't very fluid, so to speak...”
“So!” Jane could tell that Nick was unconfortable. “Let's sit down in the living roon and wait for dinner, shall we?”
“Of course Mr. Blackenstern” Scott was irritating. Jane didn't want to be around him or anyone. “Excuse me, I'm going to take a shower” And with that she went into her room before anyone could object. She was calling Jack and Tam.
She opened her facebook, and luckily both of her friend we're online. She video called them and both of them anwered quicklly.
“Guys I need to tell you something important.” a few seconds pased.
“Well? Are you going to say anything?” Jack, impatient as always. “Yes I am, guess who's in my house?”
“Jenna” Tam was looking disturbed.
“No, I mean yes but someone else.”“Who?, just tell us already!” Jack and Tam demanded toghether.
“Scott Travis” They both looked confused.
“Who is Scott Travis?” Tam didn't have a clue about who she was talking about.
“Tam, Scott Travis is the new guy...” Jack filled her in.
“Tam remember that when we saw him in the street I said he looked familiar?” Jane was hurrying up, Nick was going to wonder why it was taking her so long.
“Yeah, did you find out from where?”
“Jane?” It was Nick. “What's taking you so long?” Oh no “I'll be right there” and then she turned to her friend's, “Guys I gotta go” and she closed her computer.
She shoved a clean pair of jeans and put some water in her hair and headed towards the kitchen.
“Oh there you are!” Nick said gritting his teeth. “Now come and join us for dinner.”
They we're having steak and baked potatoes, but Jane wasn't eating. “You haven't touched your food, are you sick?” It was Scott. She glared at him. “No, but I think I might be if i'm still here in five minutes”
After five minutes she was still there, an hour in fact, till Jenna and Nick went into the living room, Scott strted to leave too, but Jane stoped him, “Hey, wait a second” He looked back with a confused look. “I didn't think you were actually speaking with me...”
“Well you were wrong” Jane interupted. “Sit down, please” He sat.
“Did you want to ask me something?” He said with a mocking face.
“I know you're not actually Scott Travis” She was direct about the matter.
“What do you mean? I think i'd know if I weren't Scott Travis” He looked amused, Jane wasn't.
“I'm not stupid, I read The team of the end of the world, and Scott Travis died.”
“Well that's quite a coincidence, isn't it?” He asked.
“No it's not, because I don't think that you looking exactlly like Will Hastings is a coincidence...”
“Look, I need to tell you something, meet me tomorrow at your book club meeting plece at three o'clock, okay?” And he didn't even wait for an answer he went into the living room, told Jenna that he wasn't feeling well and would take a cab back home, and left.
Saturday morning, Jane was up at six a.m., she was restless, she showered to times and wondered what she should wear, she settled for a pair of wasted jeans and a gray GAP hoodie. She read a few chapters of the new book club assignment, and waited aroud all afternoon till two thirty, and she headen to the park.
He was already waiting there when she got there. She saluted with a simple “Scott” And he nodded, “You might as well just call me Will now, sit down this will take a while...” She sat.
“So? What's so important?” Jane was really curious.
“Okay Jane like you said, I'm not Scott Travis, my name is Will Hastings, and i'm actually the Will Hastings from that book. I came from it, but don't imagine me jumping from a book, because the books, ALL of them are real, they are paralel worlds, and only some can travel between them, people with a special power, that you have, you can also read the dreamer's books without ant masking, and I need your help” Jane was thinking that this guy was insane, really insane and needed help.
“What? You really think i'm gonna believe this?
“Jane, you have to believe me!” He looked really worried. “I... I can prove it.”
“Really?”Jane still wasn't convinced.
“Yeah, let's go to the library...”
