"Welcome back Dennis." I said getting into his room eating cookies, as usual. "What do you have for me?" He threw papers to me. I smiled smugly. I knew he could pull this off. The two kids were now at top 20 spotting a B and a B-. "That was really nice of you." I said happy.

"The evidence." He said. Huh? Not even a how are you, straight to business. Why did his voice sound funny.

"All gone, just avoid such circumstances next time. Please." I sat next to him. "So, how was school?"

"Normal." Couldn't he continue a conversation? Or start one?

"Are you okay?" He nodded. "What Are your plans for August?"

"I don't know. What will come up, will come up." I nodded understanding him, a little. He laid in his bed snuggling between his sheets.

"Are you sure you are okay?" I felt his forehead but he withdrew fast. "You are hot. Let me get you some piriton and may be panadol, something to help." I went to the pharmacy and they gave me some medicine and took a glass of water too. I helped him take them before laying him down on the bed again. I stayed close to him till night time. I had a meeting with the guys.

"Don't leave me please." He murmured holding my hand. "Don't go."

"I have a meeting I need to attend. I'll sneak back later." I told him trying to pull his hand off.

"Please stay." His voice had me cracking immediately. I sat next to him as he drifted off to sleep and didn't leave him till the following day morning.

"Tanya and Marissa were raped last night." Titus broke the news. "Last night, as you asked, Oliver held the meeting. We finished and had Nate escort them but he was beaten pulp by the two and they had their way with the girls." I saw red. I rushed to his home only to hear his father talking.

"Get up Dennis. I know you are pretending. Get up and do what you are supposed to do." Surprisingly, he did wake up as his father said. Wait a minute, was he really pretending to be sick all that while? Did he plan all this? The two guys were from his team that's why I wanted answers from him. "Jaime?" His father took a step back when he looked at me and so did Dennis, he was afraid and I was furious.

"So,all this time you were pretending?" I said in a cold calm voice. I was hurt, I didn't expect this from him. "It was your plan all along."

"What are you talking about?" He looked confused but I couldn't just believe him.

"Don't act fucking dumb Dennis. You know what the fuck I'm talking about. You know how fucked up Amos and Kyle are, you knew they were going to ruin those girls last night. That's why you didn't want me to fucking leave last night right?" I heard a slap. That was from his father. He was shaking in anger but Dennis' gaze was on me.

"I... I didn't...." I cut him short.

"Save your bullshit. I don't want to hear from you ever. If I see you again, I'm going to fucking kill you." I stormed out and headed to my home. He didn't do this, I know it. I know him. Oh shit! I fucked up but I couldn't go back. He as their leader needed to take responsibility.

Dennis

I shouldn't have made him stay with me. We can say it was the drugs or the flu but I knew what I was doing and it was a big mistake on my part. I just wanted to have him by my side, just once, only once.  How could they do this? I warned them against it more than a hundred times, why wouldn't they listen to me.

I'm not going to deny it. His words cut deeper than a knife. It hurt so much to hear, to see that he would think of me like that. Why is everyone always quick to judge me? I turned to face my father.
