Chapter 6: Sparring Match

Glynda: "And that's the match". Glynda walked onto the stage where Pyrrha had just laid waste to Team CRDL. Cardin grunted in pain, "Lucky shot...". Glynda glanced at Cardin's limp body on the floor, "Well done Miss Nikos, you should have no problem qualifying for the tournament".

Pyrrha: "Thank you professor"

Glynda: "Now, that's a tough act to follow, but we have time for one more sparring match. Any volunteers?" she looked around the class, "Miss Belladonna...". Upon hearing her name, Blake quickly snapped to attention.

Glynda: "...You've been rather docile for the past few classes. Why don't you..."

Mercury: "I'll do it". Kai turned to his left to face Mercury who had his hand raised, "Seriously Mercury? You normally don't pay attention in class". Mercury shrugged at the comment, "Maybe I'm secretly a genius", and Glynda tapped at her scroll, "Alright Mercury, let's find you an opponent"

Mercury: "Actually, I wanna fight...her", he pointed straight at Pyrrha.

Pyrrha: "Me?"

Glynda: "I'm afraid Miss Nikos has just finished a match. I recommend you choose another partner"

Pyrrha: "No, it's fine" she turned to Mercury, "I'd be happy to oblige". As Mercury went to face Pyrrha, Kai turned to Emerald, who was sitting next to where Mercury was, "Did you dare him to do that?"

Emerald: "What, of course not" she laughed, "Mercury does random stuff all the time, that's just how he is"

Kai: "Hmm that...actually makes sense now that I think about it", and he and Emerald laughed lightheartedly. He had gotten to know Cinder's team better over the past few days, they were mysterious in some ways, but Kai felt they were really cool people. As Mercury began his match with Pyrrha, Kai asked Emerald, "Hey where's Cinder anyways? I never see her in any classes"

Emerald: "Well, Cinder's...special. She doesn't really need to come to classes. She's good enough on her own."

Kai: "So I've heard. I wonder when..." he was interrupted  by the sound of Mercury's super quick kicks clashing against Pyrrha's shield.  Ruby spoke to Emerald from the right side of Kai, "Hey your friend's doing pretty good!"

Emerald: "Yup...that's our Mercury..." Kai shrugged off the question he was about to ask and decided to pay attention to the match, after all he hadn't seen Mercury in action before. Mercury sized up Pyrrha for another second, then unleashed a series of heavy spinning kicks, which Pyrrha managed to block again with her shield. Mercury continued his assault, attacking with another flurry of kicks, and he finally managed to kick Pyrrha's blade away from her hand. Following up with another kick, he swung at Pyrrha's face, but she was able to dodge. Pyrrha rushed at him with her shield, but he jumped and launched himself backwards from the shield away from her.

Kai: "He's actually pretty good". As Pyrrha charged again at Mercury, he simply tucked his hands in his pockets and turned to Glynda, "I forfeit".

Kai: "Huh?" Pyrrha had the same reaction as she slowed to a stop, "You...don't even want to try?"

Mercury: "What's the point? You're a world renowned fighter, we're obviously leagues apart"

Glynda: "Well...in that case, Pyrrha Nikos is the victor of the match...again"

Kai: "You know I think I get the 'Mercury does random stuff' thing a little better now". Glynda glanced at her scroll, "Well since this one was cut short, it seems we still have time for yet another sparring match"

Cinder: "I'll do it..." Kai glanced up at Cinder who had just entered the class, "...And I'll face him" she pointed at Kai. He smirked, "You must've read my mind". Glynda narrowed her eyes at Cinder, "Hmm, you must be another transfer student", she sighed, "Very well, Kai Blaze, prepare for your match"
