After a night with almost no sleep Ava felt worn out.

She had woken up once an hour to check on her patient, by changing the band-aids once they were soaked through, making sure his blanket laid the right way and taking his temperature, which seemed only slightly higher than normal.

It seemed to be staying at 37.5 °C constantly though, which could only be a slight concern. If it got 0.5 °C higher, she'd call her mother immediately!

At around six o'clock he stirred and opened his eyes for a short time. Sleepily he had looked at her and smiled.

He had tried to touch her face but she moved back. With a frown he whispered something but no tone came out of his throat. His vocal chords could be torn or he simply was too worn out for speaking.

Ava gave him some water to drink and he fell into slumber right after that again.
It was a good sign she had seen him in a somewhat concious state. That took a lot of pressure from her shoulders.

At noon he woke for the second time.

Dizzy he sat up and looked around.

Where was he?

And why did his body hurt so much?

Tyler lifted the blanket and looked at his almost naked body and the cast on his left leg. Who had undressed him? And why was there a freaking cast on his lower leg?!

He tried to stand up but failed. Huge waves of pain were sent up his body and he almost cried out.

But he couldn't.

There was no sound coming from his throat.

Panicking even more he touched it. A huge crust of blood layed on top of his normally smooth skin. Tyler was near to tears. He tried to say something, anything, but it was silent. He was silent.

Ava found him ten minutes later rolled in like a puppy and crying to himself.

In one way she was happy he finally was fully awake, in the other it disstressed her why this man was crying.

Was the pain this huge?

She decided to get some strong painkillers as he noticed her.

First he looked up to her in silence but a second later she found herself on the floor, her head banging against it. Dizzy she noticed the wild look on his face.

Her fear grew and she didn't understand why he would do what he did just now.
But strangely he moved away from her.

-

Shock was written onto Tylers face. Was she...? No, it couldn't be! He sank to the floor, his one leg wasn't strong enough to carry him anymore. She sat up touching her head in pain.

Some blood was smeared on her hand as she looked at it which made him feel horrible. Had Tyler really just hurt his soulmate after meeting her for the first time?!

Confused, hurt and in distress he looked at her. Did she do this? No, that couldn't be, right?
"Of course she did not you idiot! She saved us and you hurt her!" His wolf barked in his head.

His mate slowly stood up and backed away. "Look, I don't know who you are and what you went through but I haven't got something to do with it." Fear was written in her eyes, she was even shaking slightly. That made Tyler feel bad even more. He tried to talk but no sound came out again. Frustrated he pulled at his hair.

Ava began to understand that something seemed to be wrong with his voice.

He looked like he was trying to speak but it didn't seem to work. Had it something to do with the cut on his throat? Wide eyed she stared at him. "You have to stop trying to speak!" She came near and kneeled down, all fear forgotten.

"It could damage your vocal chords even more. Try to not speak for a few days, until everything has healed. Then we'll try to see if there is a method to help get your voice back." He nodded, his eyes glazing over. Poor man.

What had happened to him?

Ava went and got the stranger paper and a pencil so he could write down what he wanted to say.
As she came back into the living room he sat on the couch instead of the floor.
"Do you need painkillers?" She asked but he denied by shaking his head.
"Are you hungry?" Denial again.

"You have to drink something." He looked up at her and shrugged.

Ava sighed and sat down in a chair opposite from him. She gave him the paper and the pencil and he gladly took it.
On purpose Tyler brushed his fingers over the girls' hand. The sparks were enough to make him feel better instantly. Goosebumps rose up his back.
Never in his 108 years of life had he felt such a strong emotion for a person. Especially not a human! It was clear she has never come into contact with werewolves before.

If he really lost his voice, how would he be able to tell her about it all? How would she ever accept him?

Desperately Tyler began to write down the answers to the questions she asked.

"What is your name?"

Tyler

"How old are you?"

26 (a little lie never did bad.)

"Do you have a certain person I can contact to let them know where you are?"

No

He already contacted his beta to let him know that he's okay.

"Okay, where do you live then?"

Where are we?

"Two hours away from Umeå."

He sucked in a deep breath. How did he end up here?!

I live near Östersund

"Do you know what happened to you?"

No clue.

He found it was time to ask her questions.

How did you find me?

"You where laying on my front porch with several wounds and bruises. I almost rolled you over with my car."

He grimaced. Thankfully she did see him before that happened.
