I was in the kitchen devouring pancakes made by Ashley. To say that Ashley was a good cook would be understatement. Her handmade food were heaven to the tastebuds. I gulped the orange juice when I had the bell rung.
"I will get the door." Ashley stood up leaving behind her almost finished pancake. I was engaged with my pancakes when Ashley came back and stood near me.
"Do you know someone named Sydney?" She sounded surprised so was I when she asked.
"Yeah. Why?" I asked confusion evident from my voice.
"He's here. Didn't know you made friends which is a good thing. Lemme usher him in, it will be rude to live him stand by the door-way any longer." She strode off while I wondered why Roy would visit me 7a.m in the morning.
"Hey honey?" I placed the empty glass I just dawned on the table and flashed a smile to Roy. "I was heading to school, thought we might be company to each other since we are neighbours." He sat on the chair opposite mine placing his bag on the floor.
"Wait... Oh my God! he's our neighbour? I haven't seen him around." Ashley rambled while I rolled my eyes. How did she expected to know the people that live around us when she was barely home.
"Mind if I serve you with my heaven-like pancakes. Once you have them you will always find yourself knocking the door every morning." Roy smiled and nodded. When Ashley went into the kitchen to get Roy her 'heaven-like' cook, Roy spoke,
"Your mom? She's interesting." I shook my head negatively."My aunt. My mom's sister." I was thankful that Roy didn't go deep into the topic since he didn't ask me anything relating to my family.
"We should get going. I know we both want to not miss any lesson." I stood up walking into the living room to grab my bag from where it was resting on the couch. Throwing my bag over my shoulders, I walked in to find Roy engaged in a conversation with Ashley making me guess that they were getting along well.
"Sydney you should pay us a visit often, I really like you." Roy laughed swiping the golden bang that fell on his temple. Ashley walked us to the door and waved us as we walked down the path, her eyes filled with admiration.
The walk to school was better than it had ever been with Roy. We talked carefree as he cracked jokes now and then. I realized I was growing fond of him when he walked me to English class, which was my first class on Mondays and hugged me.
I walked in class to find Sawyer sitting on his usual sit next to mine, to kill a mockingbird in his hand and his crystal blue eyes fixed onto the lines of the page.
"Hey." I said as I settled breaking his concentration on the book and causing his head to whip to my direction, a smile lighting his face.
"Hi. I thought you will skip school today. You were complaining of massive headache yesterday."
"Nah. Sleep is the best remedy to headaches, I slept soon after texting you and my headache died down somewhere in my sleep." It flattered me to know that there was someone who cared about me. Sawyer was one of the few people who gave a damn about me since he would always text me to inquire about my health.
From that Saturday night when I fell sick; which was two weeks back, we went on with few daily texts or calls. I was now getting more use to him and growing a like to him.*****
I was carrying a plate full of fries that I bought from the canteen to the table, when I spotted Roy walking towards me. I however didn't stop and continued walking to the corner side of the cafeteria and placed my plate on the table after muttering a hello to Jessica and Rayan."Hey.." Roy muttered standing next to me smiling. I returned the smile and turned my full attention to him. "Wanted to ask if you can help me with Chemistry today after school?"
"I will love to help." I flashed him a smile causing his eyes to light up.
"After last lesson I will wait by your locker so that we can walk to your home. Thank you honey." Roy said enthusiastically and hugged me this time a tight hug. He then leaned forward and unexpectedly placed his lips on my forehead. His warm but rough from the chap lips lingered on my forehead for seconds before he broke the contact and moved his body back. He gave me one last smile and before he could walk away, his eyes widened upon looking at something behind me causing me to turn and look too.
Sawyer stood behind me, his hand clenched into a fist and his eyes blazing from fury. Sawyer and Roy had an eye contest until Roy's lips curled into a smirk and walked away leaving Sawyer fixed to his position.
Sawyer stared at me with an expression I couldn't place. He then walked out the cafeteria leaving me standing there in shock and confusion.
"Shit." Evan cursed gazing at my confused state. "I think you should go after him. He is probably mad at you."
"Why would he be mad at me?" I wondered out loud. Evan shrugged and motioned to Jessica as if she alone was capable to fill me an answer.
"Go after him and find it from him." Jessica jutted her chin towards the entrance of the cafeteria, encouraging me to go after him. Without giving a second thought, I hurried after Sawyer who was very distant from me. I followed behind him until he reached the field that was deserted and settled on a bench.
I sat next to him in the bench meeting his slightly red eyes due to anger. "You can't just walk away without informing us." I sounded annoyed which I was.
"You like him?" He gloomily asked.
"Who?" I acted oblivious even though I knew who he was talking about.
"Roy. That son of a bitch." I was taken aback by his answer. Sawyer didn't come as a guy who swears and hearing him curse was startling.
"Why the hell are you bad mouthing him?" I asked infuriated. Roy was a nice guy and it didn't please me hear someone bad mouth him in my presence.
"I just stated a fact and here you are defending him. Just go, go to him he might need you." He sounded bitter.
"Why are you acting this way. Roy is a nice guy, you don't know him well." He scoffed turning his body to fully face me.
"I hate him and I hate more when I see you with him." His knees brushed against mine, his face inches away from mine as he studied me. Shiver ran down my spine when his minty breathe fanned my face.
"Why?" I managed to let out amidst shiver.
"Because I like you. That's the least word I can use to describe what I feel for you. Tell me you do have something beyond friendship feeling for me." I was stupefied.
"Tell me." Sawyer inched his face closer and before I could react his lips claimed mine taking me by shock. I was dazed. Too numb to move away but the kiss was brief, it was just a brush of lips but enough to leave me stunned.Sawyer's eyes were on me, waiting a reaction from me but I was bewildered to give one. It finally clicked me. He kissed me that's too without my permission. He stole my first kiss. Tears blinded my vision as I forced myself on my leg feeling betrayed. I ran away, away from him, away from the field, tears streaming down my face.
