Slipping into the car and securing the belt around my waist I was baffled to see Sawyer staring at me with eyes full of emotions I couldn't fathom. When I looked at him he looked away and started the car.
I couldn't help but feel the sparks that have been growing between us since the previous day and I knew that something has changed between us. We were no longer just friends but I couldn't categorize our relationship."You have any plan for the day?" Sawyer asked as he parked the car in the school parking area.
"Not so far." I replied as I exited the car and stood out waiting for Sawyer to lock the car. Keeping his keys in his jeans pocket, Sawyer slipped his hand into mine his large hands fitting perfectly into mine.
I didn't pulled my hand away from his for unknown reasons. I was lately finding comfort in his presence and feared that I would lose myself in him.I could sense a group of girls staring at us making me crane my neck to look at them. I recognized the group, it was Monica's(the weird slim girl whose name I got recently right)group. She stared at our interlaced hands and shot daggers at me before storming away as the girls rushed after her.
"What's wrong, you are frowning?" Sawyer asked looking down at me unaware of Monica who had just fumed about my presence with Sawyer. I knew from the first time I saw her that she had something for Sawyer, love or crush whatever it was but it gave me a weird feeling. I can't be jealousy. I tried to convince myself since I had no solid relationship with Sawyer but deep down I knew Sawyer liked me and the thought itself was enough to relax me.
"Nothing serious." I slipped my hand from his and held the straps of my bag tightly trying to hide the nervous feeling that had erupted at the pit of my stomach due to the realisation of my feelings for Sawyer.
Sawyer shook his head placing his arms on my shoulders, studying me."You are shaking, your hands are not steady and it's cold." He slipped his hands into mine, his dry hand engulfing my wet sweaty hand. "You seem nervous."
"I think I like you." I blurted out causing Sawyer to freeze for a fraction of seconds before he pushed me against the car, his eyes searching for the reality behind my words. I mentally cursed myself when I got no reaction from him until he placed his forehead against mine mumbling, "I was waiting for this, was waiting for it." He then claimed my lips coursing fire between us unknown to our surroundings.
This kiss was different from the first one, it was more fierce and urgent with no trace of uncertainty."Rowdey?" I pulled back when I heard my name. I turned to my right and found Roy staring at me, his expression showing disappointment. I turned beetroot with embarrassment since Roy just happened to catch me kissing Sawyer. Roy took calculating steps toward us his eyes fixed on Sawyer.
"Are you trying to ruin her life? Am sure that's the only thing you are good at." Roy stared at Sawyer, his eyes trying to convey a message that I couldn't understand.
Sawyer was angered by that since his eyes darkened and his hand curled into a fist and before I could step between them, Sawyer threw a punch on Roy's face, the impact of the force causing him to tumble on his feet. I saw Roy place his hands on his now bruised jaw and turning his eyes to Sawyer. His took calculating steps and his blazing eyes told me what was to come. I had to stop it before it got too far.
"Roy please." I held his arms but he was under the mercy of his anger. He shrugged my hands off him and launched his fist at Sawyer punching him in the stomach. Sawyer growled in pain and held his stomach, his body hunched and his eyes closed in pain. Roy took that as an opportunity to bring Sawyer down and tower over him.
"You bastard! You think over the years I will forget everything? Am sure you trying to trip her into your fake love." He punched Sawyer on the face several times causing me to panic and beg Roy to stop the fight but my plea fell on deaf ears. Roy was more build than Sawyer and I suspected Sawyer would come out of the fight fine.
Sawyer extended his large hand and held Roy's throat tightly and twisted him so that Roy was in his prior position. He was sitting on Roy and revenging the punches that left red-pink impression on his jaw.
"Sawyer please..stop it.." I faintly heard the bell ring and the parking lot was empty except for the cars that were parked.
When I almost gave up on trying to stop the fight, Evan and Rayan entered the scene and separated the two guys.
Rayan pulled Sawyer a bit distance from us and placed his hand on his shoulder saying something that caused Sawyer's face to drop in guilt. I couldn't hear what he was saying to him but I guess he was giving him a friendly advice or a scolding.
Sawyer turned his eyes towards me, his crystal blue eyes crashing with my brown ones. We seem to stare at each other for seconds until Evan stood infront of me breaking our eye contact."I think Roy want to have a word with you." Evan said and I nodded and strode to where Roy stood, leaning against the car that minutes before I was the one positioned there kissing his enemy. What I couldn't comprehend was why they seem to hate each others presence.
"Am sorry, I didn't expect things to get out of hand." Roy muttered once I was next to him. He had his lips cutted and bleeding slightly at the corner and he wiped off the blood with his hands. "I just don't like the idea of you been with that Bastard." He uttered as if Sawyer's name was 'bastard'
and I knew there was misunderstanding between them since I knew that both of them were the few good people I met. When I turned my gaze to Sawyer, I saw him staring at us and his eyes filled with rage and jealousy before Rayan and Evan dragged him out of the parking lot leaving me alone with Roy. I heaved a sigh and muttered, "You guys scared me out of my life. As much as I thought two guys fighting over a girl was romantic only now do I know what it feels." Roy laughed at my remark causing his cracked lips to collect a red patch on the corner.
I pulled Roy to the school field that was empty since everyone was currently in class and made us sit under a huge oak tree. I rummage in my bag and removed a piece of tissue and plaster. I dab the tissue to wipe off his blood causing him to wince. "Oh go easy, I know you want to kill me for interruptions." Roy's words cause a blush to colour my cheeks.
"Oh shut up. Am still mad at you." I hit his shoulders lightly as he chuckled.
"Why do you hate Sawyer?" I wondered loud to him plastering the band aid on his cut."It's a long story but to keep it brief, I will want you to stay away from him. He isn't the nicest of people and he tricks people into his fake love." I was confused by the revelation.
"What do you mean, what are you trying to say?" I couldn't help the fear gnawing my stomach. I hoped that Roy would laugh and tell me he was joking but he did the opposite, his face turned serious and his eyes looked distant.
"I don't want to scare you, but I will like you to stay away from him. You only know him months and I knew him ages. I know what you don't know about him." Roy picked dried leaves from the ground crushing it with his hand as he spoke.
"I want to know the reason behind it." I knew Roy would never say such thing without a reason behind.
"You...okay," he exhaled and suddenly a pained look colouring his face."Two years back, my younger sister was in love with him. Like the madly kinda love. Sawyer and my family had rivals but Emily, my younger sister didn't know him. Sawyer took advantage of that and to inflict pain in my family, he played with my sister's feelings." I didn't want to believe what Roy was saying. There was this pain that slashed my stomach as my mind wondered if Sawyer was real with me.
I thought I couldn't handle losing Sawyer.
