Chapter 34

"Meliodas are you ok?" Ayano asks worriedly

"Never felt better, check me out!" Meliodas puffs out his chest with his fists on his hips "All my hearts are right back where they belong!" he takes hold of Ayano's hand and places it on his chest "But maybe you should check for my heartbeats... Just to be on the safe side, y'know?" He winks and releases her hand

Ayano rubs her hands over his chest and over his 7 hearts, feeling the heartbeats.

"hm?" Meliodas smirks "quite frisky today aren't you honey?"

"H-hey" Ayano blushes "I-i was just-"

"alright honey you can have some of me later" Meliodas winks at her before standing up ""Yo Elizabeth, Zaratras! Who would've thought you and I would get to enjoy each others company in this world again? Life sure is full of surprises"

"Sir Meliodas" Zaratras chuckles "You took the words right out of my mouth. Not much has changed I see, you're still that unassuming monster... Incapacitating that Commandment, Derieri with a single blow. We need to make haste for Liones! it's only a matter of time before they succumb to the assault"

A Grey Demon falls beside them "51!" the Grey Demon is cut in half and Hawk's mama is forced into trees "52!"

Meliodas wraps his arms around Ayano

"Mama pig?!" Zaratras calls out

"You need to fall back before you get caught up in this mess!" Meliodas shouts to Zaratras

Derieri charges at Meliodas. Meliodas picks Ayano up and turns to retreat but stops when he sees Hawk flying to Dereri.

"Don't be stupid Hawk!" Ayano shouts

Dereri kicks Hawk, adding it to her count and they watch Hawk being forced high up into the sky. Meliodas rushes to Dereri, he wraps an arm around the front of her neck

"You've really done it now" Meliodas says before slamming Dereri into the ground

"Meli put me down to fight!" Ayano shouts

"I'm not letting you out of my sight" Meliodas tells her "Stay by me at all times"

"yes sir" Ayano agrees with a giggle

Meliodas lets go of Ayano and she stands beside him. 

"If possible, I don't want to kill you" Meliodas says to Dereri

"Sir Meliodas! Lady Ayano! Above you!" Zaratras shouts

They look up to see Ash Dragon flying to them, Ayano moves behind Meliodas who leans into Dereri.

"Is... What I would have said before" Meliodas smirks as his voice darkens, becoming more threatening. He kicks her up and slashes his Lostvayne down "Full Counter! Now just die!"

Monspeet flies to Dereri, wrapping his arms around her as they both burn by Ash Dragon.

"That was quick" Ayano comments

"Nobody hurts my wife" Meliodas says wrapping his arm around her waist

"Your future wife" Ayano giggles

"As soon as this is over" Meliodas kisses her hand "we'll finally get married, alright?"

"whatever you want" Ayano smiles

"Sir Meliodas! Lady Ayano! Hawk's mama isn't moving!" Elizabeth shouts panicked

"Oh I got it" Ayano runs over and heals Hawk's mom

"We need to get to Liones now" Zaratras says

"I'll teleport us there, everyone gather around" Ayano commands

"why didn't you do this earlier?!" Zaratras complains

"didn't feel like it" Ayano shrugs

Everyone gathers around her and she teleport them and the giant pig outside of Liones

"Dig in Hawk'ss mom, it's time for you to rest" Ayano pets her then turns to the others "Elizabeth you should stay here. Zaratras, Hawk go on ahead, Meliodas and I will cover you both from the lower demons"

Zaratras and Hawk take off into Liones, followed by Meliodas and Ayano attacking and killing the lower demons. When Meliodas and Ayano finally reaches the castle they see Zaratras on the ground with Dreyfus and Hendrickson around him.

"It seems this is it for me..." Zaratras says "I don't have an ounce of power left in my body" he looks over at Meliodas "I don't feel any... regret"

"Because you've fixed what you resented yourself for.. You saved them" Ayano smiles

Dreyfus kneels down and helps Zaratras up, "Elder brother... You're always overexerting yourself.. If only I was stronger... I never would have killed you with my own two hands, my brother..." Dreyfus hugs him "I never would have caused pain and suffering to countless innocents"

Hendrickson kneels down too "Your anger is misplaced... I am entirely the one to blame.. Because I was so weak and powerless, you were forced to do that fiend's bidding..."

Zaratras headbutts Dreyfus and flicks Hendrickson's nose "How can I even begin to ascend to heaven with the two of you in such low spirits? Honestly... Rather than... Simply mourn and pass blame, you must live on, come to terms with and accept everything you've done, this is how an adult takes responsibility is it not?" Zaratras says as he starts fading away

"Sir Meliodas, Lady Ayano, please can you pass on a message" Zaratras looks at them "Tell Gilthunder, I am always... Watching over... Him... I am so proud of him, he's become such an amazing Holy Knight, more so than myself... tell him that I also approve of Princess Margaret and that whenever something seems down... tell him to remember his love"

"Of course" Meliodas agrees sadly

"Farewell old man" Ayano jokes sadly

Zaratras smiles before he disappears.

"That promise shall never be fulfilled," A demonic voice speaks and the three of us freeze up a little feeling the demonic power, we turn to see Fraudrin full size.

"Meli" Ayano puts her hand on his shoulder

"Let's go" Meliodas smiles to her "we got this"

Meliodas attacks Fraudrin and lands in front of him.

"How can this be?!" Fraudrin shouts "Meliodas?! You traitorous bastard! Why do you still live?!" 

Ayano stands atop of the castle watching Meliodas and Fraudrin battle it out. Ayano chuckles when she notices that Meliodas isn't even fighting, it's just a clone. 

"Hey, you held up pretty nicely against my clone!" Meliodas walks up to the clone, the two merge "Hey, you look like something's on your mind?" Ayano looks at Fraudrin to see him sweating and scared

Meliodas smirks "Cat got your tongue, Fraudrin? Completely crushing any hope you felt and turning that into despair... Then savoring the utter despondence written all over your face... There really is... No better feeling" Meliodas's voice darkens again, like when he was the leader of the Ten Commandments

"yep" Ayano smiles "that's my man"
