Let's get back to the story...

                                                                   ***

I skulked behind Draco as we went down the main cobblestone street in Diagon Alley. I was painfully aware of the fact that so many other witches and wizards were staring at us.  Some of the people we passed were already wearing their Hogwarts robes.

"Who's that girl with Malfoy?" I heard someone whisper.

"Have you ever seen her before?" Another person said.

I could feel the heat rising to my face and all I wanted to do was duck behind Draco. I was so focused on the people around us I didn't notice when he abruptly stopped in front of a small black brick building. I bumped straight into his back making him lose his balance, almost causing him to tumble to the floor.

"Watch it!" He shouted.

"Sorry, Draco." I squeaked.

He shook his head and said, "It's fine just be careful."

I looked up at the building to the sign that hung above the door and windows.

"Ollivanders, makers of fine wands since 382 B.C," I murmured to myself.

I had no idea that wands had even been around that long and I was starting to feel rather intimidated by this world that I was stepping into. Draco opened the door and motioned with his hand for me to step inside. As I walked through the doors the small brick building seemed to expand. It was twice the size of what I'd imagined and had hundreds of rows of wands from practically the roof all the way down to the floor. I was amazed at how many different types of wands there were just sitting in this very building. As I approached the counter a short man with long grey hair appeared before me.

"Why hello young lady, you're here to purchase your first wand aren't you?" he said with a mischevious smile.

I turned toward Draco, the shock on my face was plain as day.

"How do you know this is her first wand Ollivander?" Draco hissed.

Mr. Ollivander merely smiled at him.

"Relax young Malfoy, I remember almost every wand I sell and to whom I sell it. I've never seen this young woman before so it must be her first time buying a wand. What's your name dear?"

It amazed me how calm and welcoming Mr. Ollivander was even when Draco was being rude. If he had been a death eater Draco surely would have been tortured for speaking like that.

"My name is Prudence...Uhm I mean Prue!" out of the corner of my eye, I could see Draco smiling at the ground. "And you're right, this is going to be my first wand. How does it work, do I just pick one?"

The old man let out a subtle chuckle as he reached around back for some boxes.

"Well my dear, the wand chooses the witch or wizard. The only thing I can do is present you with a few new ones that I've made. You'll have to wait to see which one calls to you."
