I followed Professor Grubbly-Plank and the first-year students through the dark corridors that twisted and turned. We finally arrived in front of two large wooden doors. I could hear the first years whispering with excitement, wondering what house they would be sorted into. I on the other hand didn't have the luxury of wondering what house I'd get in, I already knew that it had to be Gryffindor.

"Alright, students as soon as we walk through those doors we must make our way to the front of the hall where the staff table sits on a platform. On that platform, there will be a stool for you to sit on and the sorting hat will be placed on your head. Once the hat has announced what house you've been assigned to you must then go sit at their respective table. Any questions?" Professor Grubbly-Plank looked around but I think we were all too stunned to say a word.

"Wonderful." She said as she pushed the double doors open to reveal the Great Hall.

It was honestly something out of a fantasy novel. The hall was huge with four long tables sitting side by side. Hanging above us were candles that floated in mid-air and if you continued to look past them it almost seemed like you were staring straight into the night sky. They must have enchanted the ceiling and it was absolutely breathtaking. After I'd taken in most of the atmosphere I found myself looking around for Draco. I was pretty sure he was avoiding me because I'd scanned every face in that room but not once did I see his. Cho waved at me as I walked past her at the Ravenclaw table. I briefly made eye contact with Harry as I looked at the rowdy Gryffindors. He flashed me a smile and a thumbs-up before I reached the front of the hall, my face had started to feel hot.

The sorting hat sat atop the stool just examining us all, no doubt already trying to figure out where to place us. I looked up at the staff table, I'd never seen a table filled with such distinguished-looking people.

There were two professors I recognized immediately, the first being Albus Dumbledore. Many of the death eaters talked about their hatred for him openly. He looked exactly like the pictures in some of the wizard history books I'd read. He was very old and very grey, I swore that his beard could touch the floor. I couldn't understand why some of the death eaters found him so intimidating he looked like such a sweet old man.

The second person I knew was Severus Snape who was just now making his way to his seat at the staff table. I'd met him when I was a child at death eater meetings, then I stayed with him for a bit a few years ago. We never spoke much but he was the person who gave me access to most of the books I'd read and the one who gave me clothes on my 13th birthday. Honestly, I was always afraid to talk to him because he always looked so annoyed and today was no different.

There was a very short woman in a pink jacket and skirt sitting at the table as well. She looked out of place and rather unpleasant. She resembled a really pale toad dressed in cotton candy and she was staring dead at me, it made me shudder.

The stern-looking woman in a dark grey dress, with her hair in a tight bun and a witch's hat, made her way toward my group.

"Hello students I am Professor McGonagall and I will be placing the sorting hat on your heads. I expect you all to listen for your name and only approach once you've been called. Any funny business and I will not hesitate to remove house points once you've been sorted. Now, Sorting Hat you may begin the ceremony." she was quick and to the point.
