By the time I'd gotten back to the Great Hall, everyone was filing out. Cho informed me that the pink toad woman that I'd noticed sitting at the staff table was Dolores Umbridge. She had interrupted Professor Dumbedors speech to say that she was the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. When Cho told me I practically gagged. That woman gave off such evil energy I couldn't imagine her as a professor.
I was walking through the corridors with all the Ravenclaw students, following our prefects. There were only two first-year students in the Ravenclaw house this year and me the only transfer. The prefects told us that our house was lead by Professor Flitwick who was extremely kind and that our common room was the best common room in the whole damn castle. We went up staircases that seemed to shift every time we took a step. The air grew colder and thinner the higher we went. Eventually, we made it to Ravenclaw tower virtually unscathed but I knew that I wouldn't remember how to get back there on my own.
As soon as we arrived at the door to the common room I noticed that there was no key or nob, just a bronze eagle knocker dead in the center.
"How...How do we get in." One of the first years said weakly.
Cho and Marietta had smug looks painted all over their faces. The prefect explained that in order to get into the common room and to our dorms we would have to answer a different question each time.
"Why don't the newcomers give it a go?" the prefect cheered.
The first years groaned but I was the only one that approached the door. The bronze eagle head on the door opened its beak as I got closer.
"What can be broken without ever being touched?" it squawked.
All the students behind me began murmuring their respective answers. Some people said a heart others said a person's spirit. Those were all great answers but I wasn't sure that any of them were correct. I was honestly stumped and I could see that the students were growing impatient with me. The Thestral girl from earlier walked toward the door and took her place right next to me.
"You know sometimes I make promises but I don't always keep them." She whispered so that only I could hear.
At that very moment, the lightbulb in my head flickered.
"A promise." my voice was barely audible.
Some of the Ravenclaws were starting to snicker behind my back until the door creaked open. I looked over at the frail blonde girl next to me and she gave me a quick smile before skipping through the door. When I walked in I was taken aback, the common room was absolutely gorgeous. It was decorated in blue silk and bronze medals dripping from floor to ceiling. The room was enormous with windows that looked over the entire school grounds. Granted the large windows this high up made the common room a bit drafty but the sound of the wind passing through the tower was so peaceful. There were also bookcases that lined the walls with hundreds of different books on each shelf. I immediately felt like I belonged here, I could imagine myself sitting on the blue couch reading to my heart's content or standing by the windows watching all the students as they passed by.
The female prefect directed the girls to our dormitory while the male one took the boys. When we arrived she told me that since there was no girl first-year students in the Ravenclaw house this year I could have the first-year dorm all to myself.
