Chapter 2
Riley twisted and turned in her sleep as she fell deeper and deeper into her nightmare.
"Daddy! Look what I made!" five year old Riley exclaimed. Her dad smiled at her and picked her up onto his lap as he examined her drawing of the family. Her dad, mom, siblings and her.
"It's beautiful sweetie!" he said, tickling her, sending her into a fit of giggles
"Stop daddy! Stop!" she said through her laughter.
"Okay Ryan, time for dinner" her mom called her dad from the kitchen. He carried her to the kitchen.
"Hi mommy" she said, her mother looked up at her through her reddish brown curls and smiled at the little girl. The was a sudden pounding on the door, her dad went to answer the door still carrying Riley. She gasped when she saw three huge men standing at the door.
"Mr Moore, we're sorry but we have to take your daughter with us" the one in the middle said.
Riley jolted awake, breathing heavily and in tears. That was the worst day in her life. The day she was taken away. That was her dream every night. First she was happy then she was sad. Her life changed drastically that day and she's regretted it ever since.
She sighed and looked at her bedside clock only to see it was only 7pm. She grunted and got out of the bed, she needed to get out of the orphanage. Now. She just needed fresh air. She grabbed her jacket and headed out, not even bothering to tell anyone she was leaving.
The air was cold so he hugged a jacket closer to her. She didn't know where she was going but she kept walking until she noticed the further she walked the buildings were getting shabbier and the people looked angrier and more dangerous.
Her heart raced and her palms were sweaty. She kept walking unil she saw a library. She smiled slightly before heading in that direction. She pushed the door open and saw that the only people who were there were the librarian and a group of noisy teenagers. All of them stopped talking and looked in her direction, they whispered and snickered before turning back to their previous conversations.
The librarian gaver her an apologetic smile which Riley hoped she returned before she started to search through the shelves for any book that looked interesting. As soon as she found one, she made her way over to the librarian.
"Nice choice sweetie" the lady said, Riley didn't comment as the lady typed some information into the computer
"I'm Regina by the way" the owman said, smiling up at her. She smiled in acknowledgement and Regina chuckled.
"You don't talk much" she stated with an elderly grin. Her laugh lines were visible which meant she'd had a good life. She stuck a pin in her brown hair, making a few of the grey streaks hard to see. Riley shook her head and Regina nodded in understanding. "Well if you ever need anybody to talk to. I'm here" she smiled before turning to the group of teenagers. "Behave"
Riley walked out the library and decided to take a shortcut through a few alleys to reach hme before Nick got worried. She suddenly heard shouting and screams coming from somewhere. Unconsciously she followed the noise and her eyes widened as she saw what was happening. A fight. Her eyes filled with tears as she watched. There were two boys fighting in the middle of an alley while some bystanders watched and encouraged them.
