So Riley’s whole life story won’t be revealed until later and Jayden’s will be revealed later as well although he revealed a lot of it already.

I want pizza.

An ant just bit me.

The whole class fell silent as Donovan walked in but all Riley could do was focus on controlling her breathing; she clenched and unclenched her fists in an attempt to relax. Senorita Rodriguez directed Donovan to the only free seat in the class which of course had to be directly behind Riley. He gave her an innocent smile and sat down. She felt his eyes on her as she tried to pay attention to Senorita Rodriguez.

“Okay that’s all class. Riley would you mind showing Donovan around the school today?” the teacher asked much to her dismay. Riley’s breath hitched as she reluctantly nodded her head. Ghost turned around and wiggled his eyebrows at her making her force a smile.

“So… are you going to show me around?” Donovan asked, leaning casually against her desk as if the last two years hadn’t happened.

“Uh yea” she said softly, she packed up her things quickly and motioned for Donovan to follow after her. She tried to ignore her heart hammering in her chest and her clammy hands. It wasn’t out of love though, it was out of fright. She took a few deep breaths and decided to count the tiles as she and Donovan walked through the halls to distract herself. She muttered a few facts about the school to him, although she wasn’t sure if she was being coherent or not.

“So how have you been?” he asked her, she looked up at him in shock, not knowing he was capable of being this pleasant.

“I’ve been good. Um how about you?” she asked, playing with the hem of her shirt. Donovan had just opened his mouth to answer she assumed when Ghost and Jayden came running towards them, giving Riley playful smiles that she couldn’t help but return.

“Hey Riley who’s your friend?” Ghost asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively and giving her a smirk. How mature.

“This is the new guy. His name is Donovan” she informed him, her voice coming out a bit louder than it had been when she was talking to Donovan.

“Nice to meet you” Ghost said, holding a hand out for Donovan to shake. Since when was Ghost so friendly to other people? “So what’s the story here?” he asked, waggling his fingers at Riley and Donovan.

“Um we knew each other. I lived in Miami and so did she before she moved here” Donovan explained to him, with a slight edge to his voice that Riley knew all too well.

“So when you say you knew each other?” Jayden asked, sounding a bit too curious.

“We were a couple but we broke up when Riley moved here” Donovan said, leaving out so many parts of the story that she wanted to slap him yet hug him at the same time.

“Ah okay. We’ll leave you alone now then. Let’s go Ghost” Jayden said, grabbing the strap of Ghost’s bag and pulling him away. Riley watched as the two boys walked off and shook her head in amusement.

“Riley?” she turned back to look at Donovan who was looking directly at her. “Can I ask you something?”

“What?” she asked.

“I’m sorry for everything that happened in Miami. You know, for hurting you, but my father took me to anger management and I swear I’ve changed. I’m not asking to be your boyfriend again, I’m asking to be your friend” he said, she gave him a once over, considering his words. Can she really trust him?
