Jin pushed through the pain in his legs as he climbed the stairs to his room, feeling exhausted yet accomplished after a long day. Mrs. Choi, the co-owner of the restaurant he had been working at for almost a year now, surprised him with the best birthday gift he could ever ask for; a raise.
He was surprised at how quickly he had advanced in the small company, starting as a dishwasher and now assisting at the grill. If he kept it up, he could see himself nabbing the sous chef position in another year or two.
Pushing open his bedroom door, Jin looked around the room for a sign of his brother before splaying out on the bed with a deep sigh once he realized he was alone. Although he loved the kid, sharing a room was not something he particularly liked. After working a full shift and attending college classes, the idea of having his own space was something he often dreamed about. Sleeping an entire night, without being woken up by his younger brothers failed attempts at being quiet while he played his games, seemed like a fairy-tale.
"SeokJin! Can you come help me with this!" Called out a voice from down the hall, disrupting his peace.
Groaning from exhaustion, Jin rolled off the bed and back onto his aching feet. "Where's Jungkook?" He called out as he headed back down the hall and into the master bedroom.
A small woman, with overly dyed red hair and too tight of jeans, moved throughout the room with a pile of folded laundry in her arms. "Isn't he at that one boys house?" She asked, tossing the pile onto her striped bed and sorting through it.
Jin narrowed his eyes at the response, watching his mother carefully. She was never the cleaning type, so something was definitely off. "Yugyeom? That was almost a week ago, mom." He corrected, his eyes scanning over the room. "What are you doing?" He questioned, noticing the random brown boxes packed and lined against the wall.
"Ben is taking me to America!" She exclaimed, dropping certain items of clothing into one of the boxes.
Jin's brow scrunched with confusion. "Who the hell is Ben?" He questioned, picking up a framed photo from the dresser and looking down at it. Being one of the only pictures in the house, Jin couldn't help but smile at the memories from the day it was taken. No matter how many times their mother begged and bribed him to behave, five year old Jungkook still managed to stick his tongue out at the last second, managing to ruin every single picture.
"Watch your language young man." She snapped, her excited expression turning cold as she looked at him over her shoulder. "Have some respect. He's my fiance'."
Setting down the photo, Jin stared at his mother, dumbfounded. "Since when? What happened to Jack?"
"We broke up a long time ago, silly." She remarked, giggling as she closed the box. "Now, help me carry these boxes down the stairs. The movers are going to be here any minute."
Nothing was making sense. Jack was just at their house two nights ago making his presence well known throughout the house the entire night. Last he heard, they were looking at engagement rings and planning a weekend getaway to Japan.
Taking the box that was suddenly shoved into his hands, Jin felt his stomach churn with uneasiness. "What? When did all of this happen? Does Kook know you guys are leaving? The kid can't speak English, how do you expect him to attend the schools over there."
Closing another box, his mother pushed it towards the door and turned to collect another. "You're eighteen now. He can stay here with you! Isn't that perfect?" She tapped his shoulder, a bright smile painting her lips as the doorbell rang. "Now hurry up! The movers are here."
