Taehyung licked his lips as the quench of thirst burned the back of his throat. He hadn't a clue how long he had been sitting in the uncomfortable metal chair, his legs growing numb and back pinching with pain. He fought the urge to blink, for if he did, the image of the bottle puncturing his father's gut would play over and over on repeat.
So he sat there, keeping his eyes open and fixated on the metal table for as long as his body would allow. At this rate, he had lost track of how many times he had actually stabbed the older man. Originally, he believed it to only be once, but now, after watching it happen so many times in his mind, he simply couldn't remember.
The hospital had done a fine job patching up his side where the knife his father wielded had slashed him, as well as tending to the multiple gashes in his hand from the broken bottle. He didn't dare look at the wounds for fear he would break down crying again. There was also the fact his clothes were still stained red with the combination of his and his father's blood, the fabric now dry and scratchy against his skin.
That only made the lump in the back of his throat grow thicker.
A vague memory of Namjoon popped into his mind, the image of him talking to someone on his phone while he went around the room, checking for a sign of life from everyone involved in the fight. Tae had been in such a daze he hadn't heard when Namjoon arrived at the apartment, nor when he asked the younger boy a thousand questions while searching his body for wounds.
He wished he could feel Namjoon's warm hug again. Their moment together in the police office had been too short, Tae fighting to be back in his friends arm as the officers tore him away for questioning. Namjoon had promised him something but his mind was too cloudy to hear his words.
God, did he wish he was here. He could rely on the older to take control of the situation and speak for him, knowing he would fail at doing so himself.
The only thought he was capable of mustering was the repeated stabbing. Over and over again the bottle plunged deeper with each deadly thrust, blood shooting from his father's mouth and dribbling onto the floor.
"Taehyung?"
Tae's eyes snapped up to the woman sitting beside him, her hands resting on the table. He had completely forgotten her presence in the room, slipping inside his mind the moment she asked a question regarding his father.
"Do you need me to repeat the question?" She asked, waiting patiently for his reply, to which he nodded. The well dressed lady uncrossed her legs and turned back to her notepad. "How long has the abuse from your father been happening?" She asked, her voice calm and relaxing as she spoke.
An image of his father standing over his bed flashed behind his closed eyes, the old man holding a belt and sneering down at him as a child. A single tear cascaded over his cheek as he looked back to the table, licking his lips once again as he attempted to speak.
"F-for as long as I-I can remember." He stuttered, placing his cuffed hands onto the metal table and taking a deep breath. "Since I was a-a kid."
"Did you ever file a report or ask for help?"
He nodded. "Many times."
The woman looked up to a younger girl across the room, pointing her pen at her and arching her brows. "Make sure we get records of each attempted report." She noted before turning back to him. "Why did you stab your father Taehyung?" She asked suddenly, the inquiry becoming harder than she had prepared him for.
At the question, his lip began to quiver, tears springing from his eyes. "He-he was go-going to hurt her."
"Who Taehyung? Who was he going to hurt?"
His mother's beautiful face came into view when he shut his eyes once again, the strength to hold back his tears completely disappearing. "My m-mom." He sobbed, dropping his face into his hands. "She was bleeding. I c-couldn't let him hurt her again. I c-couldn't let him take a-another person from me." His face was now soaked in tears as he cried out, his body shaking vigorously as he pressed his forehead against the cold metal table.
"I need you to look at me Taehyung." The woman said, reaching out and rubbing his back. After a few minutes he was able to gain control over his body once again and sit up, his heavy red eyes finding hers. "Who did he take away from you?"
At the question, Taehyung stood from the chair, his head shaking violently as his father's angry threats filled his ears. "I-I cant!" He shouted, attempting to cover his ears with his arms but failing due to the cuffs. "I c-can't say!"
The woman stood from her chair and cautiously approached him, extending her hand out and brushing his hair out of his eyes. "It's okay Taehyung. You don't have to tell me." She reassured, trailing her fingers to his face as he began to calm down. "Listen to me. You are safe here. He can't get to you."
Taehyung's watery eyes slowly found hers, his hands dropping in front of him. "When can I leave?" He asked, catching his bottom lip between his teeth to keep it from quivering. "I want to go home-" He paused, looking around the room. "I want my friends."
"I'm not sure yet. The police are going to come in here once I leave and ask a few technical questions regarding the incident. I need you to answer them to the best of your ability, okay?" He nodded, wiping at his eyes and waiting for her to continue. "I am going to head back to my firm and get started on building your case with Namjoon. While I do that, you need to follow the officers commands and abide by their rules. Once you are done, they will take you to the cells where you can get some rest. I'll be back in the morning to discuss more, okay?"
Taehyung nodded, sniffling as he pushed his emotions to the back of his mind. Namjoon had brought this lawyer to work with him and he was going to do everything in his power to not mess this up. "I'm scared." He whispered, holding back a sob.
"I know you are sweetness." She replied, running her fingers through his hair. "But I'm great at what I do. You'll be out of here and back with your friends in no time."
Tae bit his lips as his friends popped into his mind. He couldn't wait to be in their embrace again. All he cared about was being with them.
"Thank you." He managed to say through the cracks in his voice. "Thank you so much."
As both women took their leave, a police officer entered, carrying his laptop and setting it on the table. Taehyung reluctantly sat back in his seat, looking up at him through now dried eyes, ready to answer any questions they needed.
