"You did what, Lucifer?" Michael seethed. It wasn't like him to stay so quiet, which made Lucifer nervous. The only reason he had told Michael in the first place was because Michael was his brother, and so he thought it was safe to tell him.
"I got her pregnant? Look it's really not my fault, I told her no but she practically forced herself on me. I didn't mean for it to happen. I swear!" Michael pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head.
"Thats not how the others are going to see this, Lu. Nephilim aren't supposed to exist!"
"They're half human! They won't be as strong as us." Lucifer tried to reason with his brother, hoping they wouldn't do anything to harm the woman carrying his child.
"We don't know that for sure."
"Thats because Raphael sends a squadron to get rid of any pregnancy by an angel. Please Michael. I don't have anything anymore."
"You have everything you created in the Inferno, and what's been unleashed on earth."
"You're my brother. Please." Lucifer nearly got to his knees. He hoped that Michael would bend just a little so that the child would have a chance. Michael shook his head.
"I will keep this secret for now, but if Raphael or even Uriel finds out, there won't be anything I can do. Hope that he is more human than he is angelic." Relief flooded through his body, but he knew that Michael was silently saying to hope the child wasn't like his father. Lucifer had indeed made mistakes, ones that had costed him exile from his home.
As Michael spread his wings and flew from the gates of the Inferno, Lucifer took the back way into Earth. He flew over row after row of houses until he reached the one of his lover. Looking through the window, he saw her with another man. He wasn't angry, she had told him, the same night she told him she was pregnant, that she was seeing another man and that she hoped to marry him and pass the child off as his. Lucifer knocked on the door and waited. The man opened the door in confusion.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm a friend of Mary's. May I speak with her for a moment please?" The man nodded and called for her. A moment later she stepped onto the porch and closed the door behind her.
"Lucifer." Not a question, nor a hint of surprise.
"Our child may one day be a target Mary. Nephilim, they aren't supposed to exist. Especially if the child is mine. As long as the Angels don't know about him, the safer he is."
"I plan to raise him as a human. But Lucifer, what happens if he suddenly has wings or some kind of powers?"
"If he shows anything like that, you know how to contact me."
"You won't be apart of his life?" Lucifer looked at her and gave her a sad smile.
"Mary, I've done many things over the millennia to earn my place in the Inferno. As much as I already love this child of ours, it's best he doesn't know who I am." Mary only nodded and blinked back tears. Despite everything the Bible had taught her growing up, it ever once told her the Devil had a heart.
Lucifer whispered her a good bye and disappeared into the night.
