I slowly stepped away from the people in front of me, but then bumped into someone's chest. I turned around to see another boy. My eyes lifted up to see a rather tall student with almost jet black, spiky hair. How many am I seeing today?
Then suddenly, two arms wrap around my own, and I'm taken away to a large couch. As I'm sat down, my mind struggles to keep up with what's going on.
I just wanted to read a book, how did I get in this situation?
The two people that carried me looked exactly like each other- I'm guessing they're twins. I saw them in my homeroom earlier and they were...quite friendly with Haruhi.
Wait...Haruhi?
I looked at the boys that stood in front of me and I found that Haruhi was amongst them.
Finally, my mind decided to catch up and my mouth decided to open.
"What is this place? Who are you all? Can I leave? I just want to read!" I kept on going on and complaining before the black haired boy with glasses from earlier shut his book loudly. Everyone's gazes followed the noise.
"Michiya.. Shimizu? I believe Haruhi was talking about you right before you entered."
I slowly looked up at the black haired boy with glasses. His hand extended in front of my face. "Kyoya Ootori."
I looked around at the people who seemingly trapped me here, waiting for an introduction from them, or maybe to explain why I'm here in the first place.
I sat there dumbfounded, until another tall, blond boy shoved everyone aside, causing one or two of them to fall on their bottoms. He engulfed me in the biggest hug I've received so far, and squeezed me tight, spinning me around.
"Beautiful maiden! Welcome to the Host Club! We truly welcome you here, sorry for the awkwardness! I'll begin by introducing ourselves." I dizzily pat his back, begging for release. Eventually, he got my signal and dropped me. "I'm so sorry maiden! Sometimes, I'm unaware of my own strength." He chuckled and flexed his arm, as if I would see his muscles.
I peeked at the exit, hoping that this would end. I hated crowds, I hated people, I just wanted to leave.
The blond haired boy squatted down to my height, while I stayed sitting on the floor. "Tamaki Suoh." He pointed to one of the tall black haired boys and the rather cute and small blond boy; "Mori~senpai and Honey~senpai." He then ran over to the twins and Haruhi. "These twins are Hikaru and Kaoru, don't ask me who is who, because I don't know." He laughed again and then held Haruhi from behind. "And of course you know my baby Haruhi~" His voice changed as if he was talking to a legitimate child.
I calmly stood up, sighed and looked at Tamaki. "Thank you for the introductions, but I think I'm in the wrong place, I was just looking for a quiet place to read." I stared down at my feet, feeling so awkward- I despised how I could feel their eyes on me, similar to the homeroom incident. I could feel their disappointment. It reminded me of when I was with my parents. I clutched my skirt, slowly digging my nails into the fabric.
Tamaki smiled softly and patted my head after he walked back to me. "Well, I'm sure we could read with you, or provide some sort of company, hmm?" Once again, my movements were slow and steady, I shook my head and my hands let go of my skirt.
"I don't want to be here.." I whispered.
I heard the familiar, deep but calm voice. My eyes tracked the voice, and they landed on Kyoya. I didn't even notice he was here. He had been silent the entire time throughout this chaos.
"Well, it wouldn't hurt to stay for one day. In the host club, we provide entertainment for rich, young ladies who have too much time on their hands by fulfilling their romantic fantasies."
My face flushed. "B-but I don't have any romantic fantasies. I-in fact, I couldn't care less about it, I just want to read." My voice quivered everytime I spoke.
Kyoya sighed and took his pen, he tapped it on my head. I glanced up at him, as my face twisted into a confused look. He continued to tap my head with his pen. No one did anything, everyone was silent. My face warmed as I felt embarrassed while everyone watched us.
My face felt even hotter by the slow minutes passing by. I hated the attention, I needed to breathe. Every tap on my forehead felt as if Kyoya was digging into my soul, waiting for me to break. What was the point of me being here anyway? They seemed successful enough, I was actually hearing about the famous host club earlier in some of my classes. It seems very popular.
All of these thoughts didn't help my confusion, it only made me more lost. "I don't understand..."
Silence. Complete silence. The only noise in the whole room was the pen tapping on my head.
I break.
"Fine, just one time, only if you guys stop bothering me."
Kyoya smiled, but this time, it seemed more sincere than the last. "We just want to get to know you, you'll understand soon enough."
Tamaki jumped up. "Hooray! I'm so excited to get to meet you Shimizu~san!" He once again hugged me, very tightly; this hug seemed to calm my nerves though. It seemed to block out my thoughts and bring me back to reality. I liked how he had that effect on me, it was odd but genuine.
"Usually, our club is open during lunch and after school, but today we took time off for a meeting. So, I hope to see you after school!" Tamaki chirped.
I sighed and lightly pushed him away. It seemed no one was keeping me here anymore, so I slightly bowed and walked to the two doors. I took one quick look at the group of boys- they seemed to already forget about me, they were already back to talking like normal. My stomach churned as I stood in front of the exit.
Was the silence really my fault? Was I the one that made things awkward? I had only just met these strange people and they're already affecting me. It made me a bit upset knowing I made them feel awkward around me. I blocked away these negative thoughts and opened the door. I was a bit hesitant to leave.
Was it okay to leave like this? I'm still very confused- why do they want to meet me? It's a mystery, an odd one. Who exactly are these boys and what this club is about? I don't want to feel like an outsider around them later today.
I felt a presence behind me. Ignoring it, I continued to fall deeper in my head- I didn't notice a quiet Kyoya until he was breathing down my neck.
"What's wrong?"
Two words. All he said was two words, but I knew he was aware of how I felt in the moment. He probably understood my feelings more than I did . I didn't even know who this boy was, but he already seemed to know so much about me.
After school, I can ask him about it.
"No, nothing's wrong, I'll be leaving now." I bowed again and left the door open behind me, I ran off before I closed it.
Kyoya sighed and closed the door, turning and humming.
"Hey Kyoya!" Tamaki cheerfully greeted him for what was probably the tenth time today.
Kyoya simply waved his hand in return nonchalantly, until he noticed something in his peripheral vision on the floor. He walked over to the object and picked it up. It was a brown colored book, stacked with one too many pages. He dusted the cover off and turned it around. It wasn't his book, and Haruhi hadn't brought any books with her either.
It was probably Shimizu~san's.
"What's that?" Tamaki pointed at the book. "It's Shimizu~san's book, I'll return it to her when she comes to the club after school."
Tamaki gave Kyoya a wide grin and trotted off.
Kyoya tucked the book into his book bag along with his other belongings as the bell rang, letting everyone know lunch ended and it was time to head to classes.
Everyone left the room in different directions according to their room numbers, and the rest of the school day passed by normally.
