Chapter 13

BETH'S POV

I saw John B's van pull up and John B, Pope, Kiara, and JJ got out. Topper and Rafe stood next to him. They threw Reed on the ground. He couldn't stand. Barry was holding me . I felt his grimy hands on my body. I felt the metal from the gun pressing into my side. Kiara tried to run over but Pope held her back. "Where's my money?" Barry yelled. "We got it," JJ said and held up a duffel bag. "Give it here" Barry said. JJ walked over slowly and put the bag on the ground. "Show me," Barry said. JJ looked back at John B and the others. I could tell by his expression that they were bluffing. "Give us Beth" John B said. "Show us the money or you get nothing" Barry spat. It all happened so fast. JJ reached behind his shirt and pulled out a gun aiming it at Barry. But he didn't know about the gun Barry had pointed at me. Everyone ran over standing behind JJ. "Put it down boy" Barry said. "Let her go," JJ said firmly. "You won't shoot me. You're weak like your dad" Barry spat. The next few seconds were surreal.

I watched Reed hit Barry with a crowbar knocking away the gun. He fell and John B, Pope, and JJ charged toward Topper and Rafe fighting with them. I felt my knees getting weak as I saw the blood and heard the punches. Kiara held me and I heard her trying to comfort me. I was calling out for Reed. He ran over and picked me up in his arms and carried me to the car and I felt us driving away as I faded into darkness.

I have been recovering since everything happened. Barry, Topper, and Rafe all went to prison. The search for the gold has been ramping up. Reed and I are helping. We found it. We just don't know how to get it out. After everything I went through, it's a small problem. I have a stable job, I mostly live with Reed, and I might get rich. Like I said...
