"Er—now what is this." I raise my brows and look between Lilah and Alex, who at the moment seem to be engaged in a very intimate hug.
They practically jump to opposite sides of the bench when they hear my voice. My brows just raise higher.
"I—I—I can explain," Delilah stutters out, a small blush on her features.
I snort and sit down, "oh you better."
Alex rubs the back of his neck, "she was just comforting me."
My gaze narrows in on the both of them, flicking between their faces. A sly smile fills my features and I nod toward Alex, "you told her, didn't you?"
He passes me a warning glare. "No. No, I did not."
"Oh, you definitely did," I laugh, throwing my head back and not listening fully to what he's saying. "Look at you, you've finally grown some balls. I feel like a proud mom right now."
"You knew?" Lilah drawls, glancing between Alex and me, confusion marking her face. "And you're proud?"
"Of course I knew," I scoff and Alex is shaking his head furiously at me from the corner. "It's been obvious since the first day I came here."
Delilah frowns, "but his Uncle just died yesterday?"
"I mean it's so obvious," I continue Lilah's words still not registering. "The way he looks at you and how he always wants to sit next to you and—wait what." I halt myself as her words finally make their way into my ear. Lilah passes me a weird glance, filled with curiosity and confusion but I'm glaring at Alex. "You still didn't tell her!"
"No," he enunciates, cheeks on fire. "I did not tell her."
"But you just told me?" Delilah cuts in. Still on the topic of his dead grandma.
I huff at Alex, "I am incredibly disappointed in you right now. You are a fucking coward."
"Liz," Delilah scolds. "Have some compassion! His Uncle just died!"
"Oh for fucks sake," I throw my hands in the air and point at Alex. "He hates his Uncle!"
Lilah cocks her head at him, "you hate your grandma?"
"Uh—er—no." He looks like a dear caught in headlights and his adam apple bobs as he gulps.
I throw a fry at him and narrow my eyes, using my index and middle finger to make the I'm watching you sign. "I know what you're doing, coward."
"What the hell is going on?" Lilah slides her hand between Alex and I's locked eyes. "Are we even talking about the same thing?"
I lean back and level one more glare at Alex before turning to Delilah, "yeah we are. Alex's Uncle who he loves oh so dearly died yesterday and he's in desperate need of comfort." She still seems wary of my answer and I'm sure my sarcasm can be heard from miles away but I'm too busy thinking of ways to threaten Alex into telling the truth.
When she turns away I cross my arms and mumble to myself, glaring at the table. "It's totally not the fact that he actually despises his Uncle, and he's using her death as an excuse to get hugs from you."
"What'd you say?"
"Nothing," I smile sweetly Lilah. "Nothing at all."
"Are you ok?" Lilah asks. "Your acting weirder than normal."
I deflect her question away, "wheres Nick?"
"Oh," A sly smile creeps along her lips. "Asking about Nick now are we?"
