Words are double-edged swords. Like everything in this world, words have many meanings. Words, like people, can be fake too. Never trust words, especially from the people close to you. And never make obvious the meaning of the words you say. If they can hurt you, at least be prepared to fight back.
~FLASHBACK~
For the little Hinata, changes always meant bad things happening. Even the smallest changes brought pain to him. So, Hinata wasn't sure what to think about the twins. He couldn't call them his friends yet. They were just two nice people who still hadn't been devoured by the ugliness of this school. He was sure in a week or two he would have more tormentors.
Despite thinking like this, Shoyo thought constantly about the other day. Kaichi and Kaishi said that they would help the ones that look like they need help. That is all. They didn't exactly mean they will befriend Hinata or protect him from bullies non-stop. No. They just wanted to make a good impression on everybody. They only wanted to be perceived by others as the type of guys with big hearts and with a sense of heroism. If that was the case, Hinata didn't solve anything in his head. He wasn't sure if he should be grateful or disguised by their acts. Why did they use him to prove that they are good guys? Couldn't they just go help someone with the math homework or anything else?
In conclusion, Hinata Shoyo was confused.
Frowning, the boy opened his classroom door and slipped in. As usual, he was the first one to arrive. He always made sure to be the first one in class. He didn't want to risk having his desk filled with trash. One experience like this was enough. Who was he kidding? He wishes this happened just one time. Sighing, he reached his desk, checked it out, and, finally, sat down. He tiredly laid his head on the hard surface of the desk. Seeing all your family die wasn't good for your sleep. Shoyo tried falling asleep, but suddenly the door burst open and two figures made their presence known. Opening one of his eyes cautiously, he noticed that the ones who interrupted him were the miracle twins. He closed his eye when he noticed them heading his way. Don't judge him. He's a tangerine full of social anxiety and most probably other mental health problems! Of course, he wouldn't know how to respond to an act of kindness. Especially when he wasn't sure if the said act was fake or not.
Oi, Ishi, doesn't he look gorgeous? Hinata heard one of the twins. He tried not blushing. He was not gorgeous. And more important... Why would he blush?
Stop being such a stalker, Ichi. Let the guy sleep. Kaishi told his brother, and with reluctance, they stepped away from his desk.
Hinata was utterly confused. They didn't even try pranking him, hitting him, or dropping things on him. They must be some angels or people from another world. There is no way someone would want to befriend him or even don't hurt him. Stop wishing for things that are impossible to happen, Hinata! But... maybe he could try. Just one chance...
Slowly, the tangerine boy opened his eyes and faked a yawn. He lazily analyzed the classroom and pretended to be surprised when he saw the twins looking at him.
Good morning, sleepyhead! The boys said. Hinata glanced at them for ten more seconds, contemplating his decision.
Good morning, Kaichi-kun, Kaishi-kun!
~~~~~~~ 6 months later~~~~~~~~
Hinata Shoyo is happy. Hinata Shoyo does know what love is now. He knows what friendship is now. He found out how perfect is live. Even with a dead family and with constant reminders of his past, Hinata Shoyo learned how to live properly. And he didn't learn this alone. Kaishi and Kaichi were with him at his every step. They helped him when he fell. They supported him when he was annoying and sad. They made him happy. They still make him happy.
Sure, there were moments when they had arguments. Like when Kaishi, the black-haired twin, tried to be more popular. He started smoking and ignoring the other two boys. After a long lecture from his brother and a hard mental breakdown from Hinata, he stopped and became the person he was before. Or like when Kaichi, the blond twin, began distancing himself from the group because he thought he was too normal and boring. After a sleep-over, he was back to normal. The incidents including Hinata happened more often than he would like to admit, but in the present, the trio was still together and their bond was stronger than ever.
Some things changed one day. It was a warm day of spring. There was only one month until the end of the year. Hinata was, as usual, the first one in the classroom. Old habits die hard. He didn't bother checking over his desk. Being friends with the twins was enough for the people to start ignoring him. It hurt at first, but he got over it quickly. Better to be ignored than to be treated like trash. He lazily stood down and checked his phone. No message.
He was worried. Usually, Kaichi would text him every morning. What if something bad happened to him? To them? What if...everything was a joke? They could have easily pretended to be friends with him. Maybe it was a dare. Or curiosity. Hinata tried to stop his thoughts. He promised himself to stop negative thoughts. Maybe they just forgot to text him. Or maybe they overslept. Things like this always happen.
So Hinata waited for 10 minutes. Then 20. Then half an hour. Almost everyone was in their seats by now, except the twins. Shoyo was more than worried. He tried calling them more than 10 times, but nothing. Looking around, he saw his classmates had the same expression. The twins had more friends, but no one could reach them.
The bell rang. Everyone hurried to their seats. Still nothing. The teacher came in and looked at his students with a sigh.
The twins won't be present for a few days because of familial issues. They wanted me to tell Hinata to take notes for them too. Now back to our subject...
Hinata, despite being glad the boys didn't hate him, had a bad feeling about this situation. He shook his head and started taking notes, trying to ignore his intuition.
And that was his first step to the events that will mark his life.
Forever.
