My Genius Mate

Ali Baker did everything in her power to return to her pack, to her friends, and to her favorite place on earth. She enrolled in the town's college as an excuse to come back and be reunited her childhood best friend, only to find he was her mate, just as she had hoped for.
There was very little time to celebrate however as she learned he had a girlfriend. It broke her and hurt but soon their mate bond would pull them together at last. It was them against the world, and a vengeful ex-girlfriend.

'No! No! No! This is not happening!' Ronan panicked as he spoke to me through our mate bond. I could hear the defeat in his voice as I was taken further and further away from him.

'I want you to know that I love you, Ronan. These past few months have been the happiest of my life. I only wished I could have returned the favor to you.'

'Don't say it like you're saying goodbye.' He was in full distraught now. Ronan's voice was breathy and cracked as he spoke to me.

'I'm not. I know you'll find me again.'

'Yeah, I promise. I'll find you, baby. Hold on, ok?'

'I will. I will wait for you. I love you.'

'I love you too, Ali, more than anything. Please just keep -'

Suddenly, I was alone.

The mate bond was a funny thing. It had its limits. The bond worked like a rubber band. When we were close to each other, it pulled and strained against us, pulling our souls together and allowed us to hear the other's thoughts. That bond allowed us to feel the other's emotions and pain. It was a fantastic thing to be a part of. However, just like taking a rubber band and pulling it as far as possible, it loses strength before breaking entirely.
