Two Simple Words

The first 9 months of Alissa Ashton's life, as she lay naked, pressed up against her sister's developing body, she and her sister were virtually identical. But then birth happened, and both her body and her mother's view of her changed forever.

Damage to Alissa's brain left her body with a life-long impairment known as hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Although her condition is mild, she has been haunted by two simple words her mother and sister have labeled her with because of it: "Crippled One."
