Falling for her was

Going to review my math notes and

The whole page is empty

Because I spent the whole lesson staring at her,

Making paper-thin braids in that damn blonde hair

Sketching with perfectly organized glitter pens

Hand raised,

Pink polish,

Beautiful

Falling for Linda was

Dropping my lunch tray and making a fool of myself

In the middle of the cafeteria

Because she waved at me

From the hall across the way

Macaroni and cheese,

Apple slices,

Mini cornogs all over the floor,

Milk carton dented.

Falling for Linda Wood was

Not paying attention,

A football to the head,

On the ground,

Eyes blurry,

My teammates all huddled over me,

The voices of the cheer team silent,

Footsteps?

Running?

Someone coming over?

Linda was

Pushing through my teammates

Kneeling next to me,

"Are you okay?"

"What happened?

It was

I was looking at you,

Watching you,

Admiring you,

And I didn't hear "Heads up,"

Didn't hear them yell my name,

Wasn't paying attention

But saying nothing

"I was distracted"

"By what?"

"I don't know"

It was her saying

I can't drive home

It was sitting in her car

It was "What were you really distracted by today?"

It was "... you."

It was her pulling over

It was her lips pressed gently to mine

It was us
