Adore Me

"You can let go of me anytime you want, you know?" I called behind me, to the man gripping my tied wrists.

"Not unless the Prophet tells me to!" He spoke proudly.

"Jesus, what are you people on?! I just came to the mall for some pretzels, my God!" I looked around at the scene in front of me. People left and right, some hissing, some growling, some fucking chanting about some wiggly thing. There was even a staircase in front of me, leading to a balcony and the 2nd floor of the mall, where more people stood, watching.

"What shrooms did you take?" I questioned.

"A heretic! She doesn't believe!" One cried out to the others.

"Kill her!" Another responded. The 'Crazies' stalked closer to me as more and more chanted to kill me. I tried to struggle in protest but whoever was holding me was pretty strong.

"Hold on, Fweindy-Wends!" A balding, creepy looking man spoke up, "We do not get to judge this heretic! Only She, who is above us faithful followers, may sentence this non-believer to whatever punishment she sees fit!" The man waved his arms around like a lunatic. Suddenly these people were chanting, or summoning, or whatever, about a mother, looking up to the balcony. I followed their stares, waiting for someone to enter into view. I heard a familiar voice.

"That's right Gerald, they're worshipping me again!" The voice got closer as my memories got clearer, "No I will not put you on speaker. Hold on a minute, I have to judge a heretic!" She came into view, as beautiful as the last day I saw her. Memories flooded back as I saw the blonde hair, the fancy makeup, the expensive clothes. Our secret high school fling. She pulled me aside. Confessed. Next thing I know, we were making out behind the bleachers daily. Every moment tasted more like bliss as every day passed. Each second I saw her, kissed her, loved her, flashed in my mind so vividly.

"No, Gerald, I don't ca-" She stopped in her tracks as our eyes met. Those beautiful brown eyes full of a warmth, a small flame.

Time froze in place. There was only us. I could see the memories coming back into her eyes. The days full of love. The secret we kept from everyone. Every time she walked away, ordering me not to tell anyone. The day it all ended, along with high school. Each moment full of another beautiful emotion.

"Linda..."

"(Y/N)..." her arm, holding her phone, dropped to her side, as the other one gripped the railing of the balcony. Another moment of silence passed, until she shook herself back to reality, "Um. Take this heretic to my personal office in the Hot Topic!" She yelled, our eyes still locked. I was shoved to the side, in the direction of the emo-rock-band department store, as Linda walked away. We used to spend so much time there. We even exchanged two of those cute, cliché 'relationship bracelets' on one of our secretive dates.

The entrance to the Hot Topic was heavily guarded but no one was inside. I couldn't see Linda either.

"Meet her in the back room. She wants a private audience with you," The man behind me spoke harshly as he untied the rope bounding my wrists. He pushed me inside, but didn't move a muscle, staying on the outside of the dark store.

I slowly made my way forwards, towards the back room, where I knew Linda would be waiting. When I got to the door, my hand hesitated. It wouldn't move or grip the door handle. My breathing hitched. I couldn't do this. I couldn't see her again, not after so many years.

And yet. I longed to see her. To speak to her once more. I thought I had gotten over her long ago, but as I battled myself over opening this door, I knew I was just lying to myself for all those years.

Finally, I gripped the handle and opened the door, quietly, and walked in. Turning around, I tried to close the door silently, until I was forcibly turned around and pinned against it. A pair of lips crashed onto mine. Familiar in passion and lust. Familiar in longing. I didn't need to open my eyes to know it was her. Linda. The girl I fell so hard for in high school. Instinct kicked in as I kissed back, grasping her back and running a hand through her hair. A moment later, too soon in my opinion, she broke away.
