Christmas Eve at cair

Ages:
Lucy: 11
Edmund: 14
Susan: 15
Peter: 17

Lucy woke up rather early that morning. Winter snow covered the entire castles, leaving a beautiful view out of the window.

The youngest queen immediately hopped out of bed, putting her dressing gown on over her nightgown.

it was Christmas Eve. The second best day of the year. In her opinion, anyway.

A day of celebration. A day where everyone was nothing but happy. And if someone was down...Lucy saw it as her priority to make sure they had a great Christmas Eve.

Edmund was having a rather cheerful morning. The year had been hard, and he saw this as a time to spread Christmas cheer.

He was already dressed and ready, as he wanted to be in the throne room early to help everyone set up to table for the Christmas Eve feast.

They only set the grand table out for occasions like this. They always invited as many narnians as possible to the Christmas Eve feast, and this year the guest list was even bigger than last years!

"Your majesty...do you want the silver or gold candlesticks on the table?" A faun questioned.

"Umm...go with both. A bit of silver and gold to represent the four rulers equally" Edmund decided, as he gave a nod to the faun.

"Excellent choice" the faun replied with a smile, before going to set the candlesticks up on the table.

"Hey Ed" came peters voice as he also entered the throne room.

He was wearing a red and gold tunic.

"You're looking festive" Edmund said with a slight giggle.

"It was an early Christmas present from Susan so I have to wear it" peter replied, joining in with the laughter slightly.
"I do like it though" peter added. He especially liked the colour combination of red and gold.

"So what are the plans before the feast?" Edmund asked.

"Susan is making sure the kitchen staff have everything under control, I have a secret Santa to attend with my generals and you are going to take Lucy out to the Christmas market. Luckily it's still open" peter explained as he checked over the table decorations.

"Wait...you and the generals have a secret Santa?" Edmund questioned.

"Yes. We do" peter replied with a smile.
"We only did a secret Santa because you were already doing one with the archers"

"Good point" Edmund said with a brief laugh.

At that moment, Susan came rushing into the room, flicking through her notebook.

"Oreious. Would you mind making the tinsel around the pillars look a little more even?" She asked politely.

"Of course, your majesty" oreious replied with a small bow, before going to readjust the tinsel.

"Someone's picky" Edmund commented, causing peter to nudge him in the ribs slightly. That was the signal for Edmund to be quiet.

"What Ed means is...thank you for helping. Seriously, the feast would be a distasteful without you double checking everything" peter said to Susan, giving her a grateful smile.

"No problem" Susan replied. "I like making sure the preparations are in order"

It was then that Lucy, who was wearing a white dress with golden lacing, came rushing into the throne room to admire the decorations.

"Lucy!" Edmund exclaimed and rushed over to her. He picked her up and spun her around excitedly.
Lucy giggled as he finally set her back down.
"Merry Christmas Eve!" Edmund said as he pulled his sister into a tight hug.

"Where did that energy come from?" Susan questioned.

"When it comes to Lucy, Edmund seems to always have enough energy to make her laugh" peter explained as he watched the two youngest get even more excited.

"We can go to the market today, Lu! It isn't closed yet and I bet we get the place all to ourselves, so we can look around for extra gifts!" Edmund said.

"Oooh yes, that does sound fun!" Lucy said as she let out another adorable giggle.

"The 'silver crown express' is now about to leave the station. Next stop, the Christmas market" Edmund said, as he pretended to be a train.

Lucy laughed and quickly hopped onto Edmund back, before Edmund took off, running down the throne room and out the main doors. He was still making trains noises and still had Lucy on his back.

"Ed! Please be careful!" Susan shouted in slight concern for Lucy's safety. After all, Edmund had been running rather fast.

Peter on the other hand, was trying to hold in laugh. As he loved to watch Edmund and Lucy spend time together.

"Come on, we better check on the kitchens" Susan said.

Before peter could even reply, Susan had already began to drag him ( gently) towards the kitchen to check on the food.

Edmund helped Lucy take her cape off when they arrived back from the Christmas market.

"That was fun. I got an extra gift for Susan and you found another gift for peter" Edmund exclaimed, loving that their trip to the market had been a success.

"Yes, it was great!" Lucy agreed with a nod.

"I can't wait for tomorrow" she added with an excited sigh.

"Me too. It's going to be the best Christmas ever!" Edmund decided.

"You say that every year"

"And every year, I've never let you down" Edmund pointed out with a smile.

LATER THAT NIGHT

the feast was over. Everyone was exhausted and joyful at the same time. The whole kingdom was so excited and read for Christmas.

The four rulers joined the the boys room for a sleepover, as they had decided to do every year.

Edmund and Peter sharing peters bed, whilst the girls shared Edmunds bed.

All four of them looked out at the balcony, as the snow fell heavily.

Susan had made some hot chocolate and handed it out to all of them.

"Merry Christmas..." peter said with a smile as they all sat around the rooms fireplace.

"Merry Christmas" came three in sync responses.

Peter and Edmund shared a glance before smiling at each other.

"We did it. We managed to make Christmas a success" Edmund muttered happily.

"Yes...yes we did" peter replied with a proud smile.

And with that, they clinked their mugs of hot chocolate together, and continued to watch the beautiful flames of fire.

They truly were a family.
