NO MORE ICE ( part 2 )

AGES:
Peter: 16
Edmund: 13

"Ed!" Peter shouted in fear as he immediate skated over and towards the hole in the ice.
He looked into the dark depths of the water but he couldn't see him. It was nighttime so spitting him would be twice as hard.
He could hear something kicking beneath the ice. It had to be his brother.
"Edmund!" Peter cried again, terrified.
Peter pulled off one of his skates and used the blade and smash the ice. His shaking hands finally were able to wield the skates with enough force to smash a manageable amount of ice.
Without even thinking, peter pulled himself underwater. It was freezing.
He hadn't been this cold since Narnia's eternal winter. In fact he was willing to bet that it was colder.
Peter looked around, but the water was pitch black. He did his best not to panic before he looked a little below him.
There was Edmund, unconscious and floating. Peter grabbed his brother and swam back to the top of the ice.
He hauled Edmunds body up and then pulled himself out of the water.
He went over to Edmund and checked his pulse "come on Ed, don't quit on me now"

Peter pushed down on Edmunds chest, trying to get the water out of his lungs.
To Peters utter relieved Edmund coughed up the water and turned to his side, shivered.
"It's okay Ed. You're okay" Peter said immediately wrapping his arms around Edmund.
He could feel Edmund shaking violently "come on, we need to get you home"

•••••••••••••

Helen gasped when she saw the state of her two boys as they walked into the sitting room.
"What happened?!" Helen asked, looking at how pale Edmund had gone.
"The ice broke" Peter said shakily.
"Oh my gosh" Helen said pulling her youngest son into a hug. Edmund could feel himself beginning to cry but immediately stopped it.
"I'll get him a hot water bottle" Susan said immediately running off.
"I'll get the fire started" Lucy said, panic clear in her voice.
"I'll fetch some blankets" peter said about to walk off but Edmund grabbed his sleeve.
Helen saw the fear in Edmunds eyes and glanced at Peter "you stay with him, I'll get the blankets" she said softly.
Peter nodded thankfully and sat Edmund down near the fire Lucy had started up.
"T-thank you" Edmund stuttered as Peter got Edmunds jacket off. The jacket was cold due to the ice and he was trying to do everything to get his brother warmed up.
Helen came back with the blankets and peter wrapped three of them around his brother. Edmund buried his face into Peters neck and that's when he started sobbing.

"It's okay" peter whispered comfortingly.
"I wasn't careful enough"
"You were excited Ed" peter reminded him "this was an awful accident"
Edmund felt more tears well up in his eyes.
"It was so dark...I was so scared" Edmund admitted as Susan handed Peter the hot water bottle.
He gave it to Edmund who held it close, taking in the heat.
"I know but i wasn't going to let you...die" peter said glancing down a little.
"The cold" Edmund said before pausing "it reminded me of...her" he said shakily.
"I thought my mind had blocked out those memories.." Edmund sobbed.
"That experience traumatised you Edmund. It's bound to effect you every once in a while. But you know that you're stronger than that. You're stronger than her"

Edmund lifted his head up slightly and nodded, knowing Peter was right.
"Just promise me one thing..." Edmund said.
"Anything" peter said.
"Stop saving my life. It's making you look way too heroic" Edmund said smirking.
And the two brothers laughed as they hugged each other, knowing they were safe.
