Bright. It was too bright. You promptly shut your eyes try to stop the inevitable golden light from filtering through.

"Ahh, your awake"

You finally opened your eyes too see a small, old lady holding, was that a giant needle. "You were out for quite a while, it's nearly 8 o'clock" Your face paled, the one condition for you applying to UA was that it wasn't going to affect your chores. Mikko-san got home at 9 so you still had time. You were suppose to clean up the house and make dinner. The train ride from UA was about 2 hours. 'Fuck.'  Maybe there was still some way? She could be late, right? Maybe for once the universe would be on your side. The only thing that stopped you from shaking was the years of experience. This was nothing to be afraid of. 'You've been through much worse than this.' Your just overreacting.'  Years of experience allowed  you to school your features to neutrality. You activated your quirk trying to bring a little bit of color back to your face, and focused on the old lady. It had been less than a moment before your instincts kicked in, so she hadn't noticed anything was wrong.

"Eat these gummies deary , they'll help restore your stamina. You mainly passed out from malnutrition and exhaustion."

You just nodded, barely comprehending the information.

"You'll be fine, just need to sleep a bit and eat a good meal"

You nodded again, understanding a bit more. You doubted you'd get either of those things, but you just nodded. "Thank you, I'll be leaving now." You said, being careful to keep your tone even.  As you tried to get up, the old lady pushed you down with surprising strength.

"Not so fast young lady, we tried to contact your guardian but we just got voicemail. We left a message but you'll just have to stay here until someone can pick you up"

Ah, you'd have to lie again. What should you say this time.

"Don't worry, my mother works near here. I can just walk to the restaurant she works at."

That technically wasn't completely lie. Your foster mom actually once had a job near UA, and a bar is technically a restaurant. A few days when the train had broken down, you'd just had to run the long distant to the apartment. It was just . . . training.

"Okay, if you say so deary." The old woman said, sounding unconvinced.

You quickly grabbed your backpack, wrapped the familiar black jacket a little tighter, and dashed out of UA. The last train left at around 8:00 and arrived at your stop at around 10:00. You could still make it, right? You arrived at the station just as the train was leaving.

'Fuck'

'Fuck'

'Fuck'

This day had gone horribly wrong: you were sure you scored no more than 13 points on the entrance exam, you had fainted, you were late, and now you missed your train. Just great. You couldn't run the whole way back to the apartment, right? No, that would be over 4 hours, you were exhausted and you didn't have time for that. You would just have to hop from bus too bus.

After getting on bus after bus, choosing the wrong one at least 3 times, you finally made it home. This whole ordeal took longer than you thought it would. You pondered weather it would be better just to run from rooftop to rooftop. It was around 10:40 by the time you reached "home". You hoped that Mikko-san would be asleep by now. You knew it was a long shot, but some days when she was especially tired and had to make it to her night job soon she would immediately fall asleep.

You sent a silent prayer as you creaked open the tattered wooden door. You knew it was useless, if there were any gods, they abandoned you long ago. You took a sick sort of pleasure thinking that there was absolutely no one left for you to disappoint.

As you hoped that you could escape to your room undetected, you immediately spotted Mikko-san waiting for you.

"Where the fuck have you been?"
