“Our mom wants me to talk to you on something by the way.  She said you don’t bother to talk to her anymore.  She sometime feels alone.  You’re HER SON TOO you know,”

Lahat napatigil sa sinabi ko.

“Rafa, this is not the right time to joke around,” suway sakin ni Topher.

“Yeah right, I just want to remind him that’s all,” sabay tingin sa taong pinaparating ko ang mensahe.

“Don’t worry, I’ll catch up with mom.  I’m just busy with college and I believe she understands.  I hope you understand too.”  tumingin rin siya sakin.

“Huh!” I sneered at him.

=_=

=_=

We were just staring at each other for a long time until Jaypee broke the ice between us.

“Uhmmm..ok guys!  Since 3pm pa next period natin, let’s go somewhere else?  Sa YB’s perhaps?  I know na miss natin ‘yun. Raf? Dy?”

“Oo nga! Buti nalang right timing ka Dylan at wala kaming pasok ngayon first period ng afternoon classes,” dagdag naman ni Philip.

These guys already mastered how to cool us down when tension arises.  Palagi nalang.  Kaya, they know how to do it.

“Sure sure.  Na miss ko rin naman ang dating tambayan natin malapit sa St. Jude’s” sagot niya sa dalawa.

For the five of us, ako, si Topher, si Philip, si Jaypee and him, it’s normal that I would bicker around my brother.

My HALF brother.

Yup, kuya ko siya.  We share the same mom.  Before mom and my dad got married, she was already 5 months pregnant with someone else’s baby.  My parents were childhood bestfriends then and my mom also treated my dad as such but my dad thought otherwise.  When my mom broke up with her boyfriend then, she did not mention that she was carrying his child.  Dad, who loved my mom so unconditionally took the responsibility and married my her.

After 4 months of marriage, he was born and after a year, my mom got pregnant again and this time, I came around.  Sabi ng mom ko close daw kami when we were kids, but when his real dad, found out about him, he asked my parents to take custody to his son.   He was also happily married but his wife could not bare a child.  My parents did not agree to it at first, but after some court decisions and legal arrangements, kinuha rin siya.  And I was left alone.  He was six then, and I was turning five.

After that, everything turned out very civil surprisingly.  Naiinis lang ako kasi parang mas pinapahalagahan niya pa ang mama niya ngayon kaysa sa sariling ina niya.  I don’t mind actually it’s just that my mom keeps on bugging me around para kamustahin siya.  The reason why mom enrolled me at St. Jude’s ay dahil doon rin siya nag-aaral.

From elementary, to high school, I’m like his little shadow.  And it pisses me off.

Mom loves him so much more than how she loves me.  That’s why I tried to excel in everything that he’s into to prove that I am the BETTER SON.

Which,

I did.

He went to football and was one of the midfielder, I became the captain and the striker of our team.

He ran for office as the vice-president of his batch, I ran too and became the president.

His part of the school band also and was the lead bassist, pero ako ang lead vocalist.
