Two weeks later...

This was it. Today was the day Rocky would tell Zuma how he felt about him. He could barely focus on his lessons and zoned out at lunch, thinking of the right thing to say. He would normally just talk to Zuma at lunch, but for some strange reason Zuma wasn't hanging around with him and the others since Skye's incident. Finally, the bell indicating the end of school rang. Rocky pulled out his mobile and scrolled through the contacts until he reached Zuma.

'Meet me at our spot at 3:30,' he messaged. Zuma answered a few minutes after. Rocky wasn't happy of this, because Zuma had seen the message. Well, at least he answered, even if it was only with a thumbs-up emoji. Rocky ran to the spot. He looked at his watch. 3:16. He remembered when Zuma first took him here, where the moon lurked over the lake. The trees swayed softly in the breeze, as he heard footsteps coming closer. He took in a deep breath.

'Hi Wocky. What's up dude?'

Rocky froze. All thoughts had vanished completely.

'I..er...well I...you see I...'

'Awe you okay Wocky? You'we acting stwange...'

'So I'm the one acting strange?' Rocky blurted out. Shut up, his brain muttered but his mouth still continued.

'It's not like I've been ignoring you for the past two weeks.'

'What?'

'Don't play dumb with me Zuma Waters! You know it's true! Just a text or a call! It's not that difficult!'

'So you'we just hewe to lectuwe me then? Cos I don't need to heaw this. I have somewhewe to be...'

'Of course you are! You are always too busy to keep in touch with your best friend! Do I not matter to you? Cos you matter to me! I love you, and it kills me that you don't care!' Rocky froze again. That was probably not the best way to confess your love to someone.

'What?'

'You heard me...'

Zuma sighed heavily.

'I'm sowwy Wocky, but I have feelings fow Ella...'

'So you're going to date someone you hardly know? What about us?'

'Don't you get it Wocky? I'm not gay! Nevew have been, nevew will!'

There was a long silence, one that lingered for a few seconds too long. Rocky choked back tears as it finally sank in. He didn't love him. Nobody did.

'I'm sorry Zuma,' he muttered. 'I hope the best for both of you.'

Then he walked off. Zuma waited until Rocky had turned the corner before he shakily got up.

He walked to the park, where Ella was waiting on a bench.

She sighed. It was time for her to tell him the truth...
