TW: grief, death

This is a Marshall chapter, suggested by Purrfect-reader12 . If you have any suggestions for a character based chapter then let me know in the comments or DM me. BTW, Sweetie and Tracker are coming into the story in a few chapters. On with the story...

Marshall woke up. Today was the 26th January. His mum's birthday. He pulled out a black shirt, black jeans and black jacket. He walked into town. Past the bakery where they used to buy vanilla slices. It was her favourite. Past the river, where they used to feed the ducks. Even the ducks looked more melancholy. It was like they missed her too. Everyone missed her. She was beautiful, funny, smart and unfortunate. Soon he reached the graveyard. He found the grave, where flowers were lay down in front of it.

'I see Dad's already been. I've got a...confession.'

He sighed deeply.

'I forgive...me. I forgive me for not appreciating all the little things you did. I forgive me for blaming myself for your death. I forgive me for hating you, after you hurt us by leaving. I forgive me. I don't know if I can forgive you yet, but I will try. I will never forget you, but now I realise that it isn't my fault you died. Sometimes the world can be harsh and cruel. But you will always be with us in our hearts. I will no longer miss you, because you are still with us. So I'd like to say thank you. Thank you for teaching me things I never would have known. How to be strong, brave and understanding. Thank you.'

He lay down some more flowers as snow started to fall lightly.

'I remember how we used to go sledging. All of us. There was that time you let me steer, but we ended up crashing. I thought you would be mad, but you just laughed. We went home afterwards, and you made the best hot chocolate. We'd snuggle up close to the fire.' Marshall smiled. 'Those were good times.'

Chase saw Marshall sat at the grave and ran over to him.

'Hey Marsh.'

'Hi.'

Marshall turned around. Chase was still decked in black.

'Marshall? How do you deal with...the pain?'

Marshall sighed.

'You want the honest answer?'

'Yes.'

'You don't. You just adapt. It will always hurt. They're not physically with us, but the memories and the love is still there. That is something that will always stay with us.'

Chase saw that Marshall was lightly crying, but not as much as last year. Marshall saw Chase lightly crying. They both hugged.

Skye ran over.

'You guys want to come inside? I made hot chocolate.'

The three of them headed inside.
