This is a very short chapter :)
Everyone filed out of the room. Everest waited by the door.
'Maria? Can I talk with you?'
Maria came to her.
'Of course.'
'Do any of you know where Rocky will be living after he leaves the hospital?'
'Not exactly. We can't find any other family members...'
'So he'll end up getting sent to an orphanage or a children's home for short term?'
'Well, we can't assume, but probably, yes.'
'So why not you look after him? I mean, you are a short term foster carer, and you took me in and everything has been great! I could stay in touch with Rubble, I get Skye for a sister...'
Maria sighed.
'Everest honey, it isn't that simple. I don't want you to get too excited.'
'I know Maria, but I know what it's like to move away all the time, and be separated from your friends. I don't want him to leave! We're all really good friends!'
'Okay! I'll see what I can do...'
Everest gave her a tight hug.
'Thanks mum,' she whispered.
Then Everest ran off to Marshall and Skye, who were waiting for her at the end of the corridor. Maria smiled. That was the first time Everest called her mum, and hopefully it wouldn't be the last.
