Kicks and punches flew in, inviting more bruises to scar the boy's face. After what seemed like forever, Rocky was carelessly tossed into a bin, the bullies sniggering as they shut the lid. The grey-haired boy sighed. He would never get out of their grasp. He was a bully magnet. He stood up and sighed again. How was he going to get out? The bin was practically empty, the bin's walls were tall and Rocky was a bit on the short side. He pulled out a textbook and a notepad. I may as well spend my time wisely, he muttered as he wrote algebraic equations in the light of his cracked phone.
Zuma panted as he made his way into school. It was only 7:21 on the clock face on a wall. There's hardly anyone here, he thought as he wandered down empty corridors. Am I early? Better to be early than late. That also meant he could scavenge for food with nobody seeing. He spotted some large bins in the corner, and no one was around. Surely there's something to eat, he muttered before letting out a shriek. There was a boy in the bin.
'You gave me a fwight dude,'. Rocky just looked up at him.
'Care to help me out?'
'Oh, of couwse!'
Zuma held Rocky's hand, allowing him to scale the bin walls and jump out. That's when Zuma looked at Rocky properly, who was dusting himself down. He was slim and short, with hair that kept covering his eyes, and was needed to be cut. Then Zuma's hazel eyes met Rocky's copper eyes. However, he quickly snapped back to reality. He put out his hand.
'I'm Zuma Waters'
'Rocky Smith'
They shook hands.
'Thanks,' said Rocky quietly. 'For helping me out of that dump.'
The two boys shared a small laugh.
'It's not a pwoblem. Besides, I have had my faiw shaiw of bullies. Fow my lisp.'
'I think it makes you more unique'.
The brown boy blushed. Nobody had complimented him before. Ever. He didn't have any proper friends here. I guess this is my first one, he thought. The bell rang, bringing Zuma away from his thoughts.
'Ugh. I've got maths now.' To his surprise, Rocky said he had that too. So they walked into school, both glad to have a friend in the school. Their first one anyway...
