Terra Degado POV

What is a hero? Some people would say that it's a person who helps others or puts their life on the line for others. Real heroes don't exist, we just have superheroes, they don't even deserve the hero part of their name.

When I was younger, I think I was a huge superhero fan, X-men, Avengers, and anyone else in between. Living in the heart of NY was both amazing and fighting. My parents complained that a world-ending event happens every Tuesday. Things change, and people change too. For one, I did.

Turns out I was a Mutant, the worst thing to be at the time. My parents had no idea how to take care of me. My father wanted to get rid of me, that mutants are a plague and that he was disappointed that I was a mutant. My mother wanted a normal life for me, to hide my powers and never learn to use them. My mother was nervous that I would get taken away and forced to become an X-men or something. They argued about this alot. Many nights were full of yelling and slamming of doors.

I decided to use my powers, I didn't know what my powers were, I just prayed that it could fix my parents relationship and make them forget I had powers. I did more than just that.

I glance up from the paper and feel nor remember anything of this, but something inside me said that it was all true. I continue reading.

I went downstairs to find no more yelling and my parents on the couch, I tried to talk to them but they started panicking as to why there was a kid in their house. I fixed my parents' relationship but erased me in the process. I was sent to the police and they searched for my parents who were the ones that gave me to them.

I was waiting in the lobby of the police station and a bald old man approached me. It was none other Professor Xavier, the demon in human form. He offered to take me to his school for mutants, and that he could help me. I reluctantly accepted. Me, a 13-year-old on her way to becoming an X-men, I might have been a little excited.

-Quick note to Future Self- By the time you are reading this, our memory has gotten worse, let me explain how your power works. We can manipulate memories. We have to have physical contact for it to work. We can do three things with our powers, we can touch someone and search their memories, which is really cool, we can lock memories so they don't remember it till something triggers the memory, this one is better than the last one, we can erase memories, this one has the most drawbacks. When erasing a memory, it erases one of our memories too. It mostly seems to target more memorable things like Christmas or birthdays. I, 16-year-old Terra am writing this so future me can remember this stuff. Anyways, back to the story.

I HATED every single moment at the X-school for Mutants losers. I was placed in the second-rate class, which was for the normal people. Powers that the teachers didn't care about. We took normal classes, not learning much about our powers. Still, everyone in my class wanted to be an X-men. I did make a friend, Mia, she had a "useless" power according to the X-men. She could be average at everything. I know it was a weird power but she was super fun to be around.

The school was not the safe haven I was promised, quite the opposite really. The X-men left to go stop some evil thing/person leaving us without teachers. That was a good day. When some villain decided to attack the school, they "saved" the day at the expense of the school and Mia. I tried to save her but Cyclops' eye blast hit her and she was gone. So after the X-men won they did a roll call to see if everyone was ok, we lost five kids in that attack, and the X-men bathed in their victory, and my classmates were even more desperate to become one.

So, the point of this shorter version of the story, (I am going to write a longer one so future me can remember things that will be forgotten.) Superheroes SUCK.

I look up and try to take in everything that was said. My memory may be failing me but I know that this is most likely true.

Sorry about this, I wrote it at like 2 am and didn't feel like editing it that hard so things might not make sense so here's a tl;dr.

Terra is a mutant with the ability to manipulate memories. She went to the X-men school thing. They have two classes, the people with powerful powers like Ice-man and rouge. The other class is for people who have less dangerous and powerful abilities. They are just taught how to control/hide their powers. Most of the kids have no physical mutations and don't go on missions or train in the danger room.

They also learn normal stuff like math and science. I always wonder why evil x-men people attack a SCHOOL. The kids there are KIDS. It's a school.

The more memories she manipulates the harder it is for her to remember things. Erasing memories cost one of her memories. She also can browse memories by touching people, but she has to have contact and it takes time to browse.

Oof that was long. I hope you guys like terra she is a really interesting character. Anyways see u guys later -Aura
